High top Chuck Taylors are just about the same as most of these new river shoes that have recently come out.  And they dont cost $100.  Used them for many years when wade fishing on slippery rocks and the soles do well in the water.  They also dry out well so they dont tend to stink as much as many of the river shoe/booties.

I think that will be my short term fix. The Merrills I was wearing...ugh, I can't even keep them on the porch they're so foul smelling.

Picked up a NRS Ninja PFD for under 100.00 yesterday, it's uber comfy.

NRS ninja is an awesome jacket. I was torn between the ninja and the astral ytv. I went with astral because I love my old astral (8 years old) and its low profile without all the bells and whistles. Get yourself a Badfish Re'leash.

This one is beefy across the chest but it floats me really well. I've worn it on two hectic paddles and it's never bothered me. Ended up with a NRS Quick Release, the local shop had one on the shelf and I got it for a sweet price. Had to use it yesterday when I got caught up.

Went out yesterday, river that normally is 1' deep was 6'. Cool how much things change, had a great time. Only swam once, went over a pipe that spans the river, made it, then the leash got caught on a branch. Just enough pull to send me down. Got into a foot first float, undid the board, mounted and paddled away.  Fun times.

Our river here was running 1800+ cfs a few weeks ago with class II+ to low III's. Next week it was down to 800 and then 300.  Today it's running 170 and its two low to board. Now have to drive 30 mins to the Colorado for deeper water. Going to float my board today with some tubers and beer. Gotta love summer!

Nice. Was going to go out today but I have too much work to do from the days that I missed.

Tubing has gotten pretty big here. There were several dozen out last w/e in everything from truck tubes to the NRS tubes to giant things in the shape of animals. River near here is pretty chill, one place that's popular they check for beer. One perk of SUPing while people tube...I've seen some..."interesting" sites as I pass by people. :)

Tubing brings out the worst of people on river. It's a last to just float and drink beer but have to respect river, and not trash it like a lot of the tourist here do. Yesterday was so much fun. I mostly just laid on sup but stud up a bunch in deeper sections and slalomed around tubers and rocks. It was fun and I got to work on my turning skills and of course balance. Even at such a low level it's still fun. Only caught fins once but took a spill. Saw some people floating an inflatable mattress.

Just picked up the Jackson SUpercharger.  Although it is heavy, it rocks big time.  Ran shashone on the CO and did not go in once.
SO stable and gun, eddy's in and out so well.
I really love it.  Better than my expectations.

I find that the weight of the Jackson really helps when on the water :)

I was thinking that may be the case with the heavier roto-molded boards. Kinda the law of tonage, larger heavier ships do not feel the water as much as a tiny sail boat. Local shop here just got 4 or 5 of the SUPerchargers in and within days I say them on a few cars around town. May rent one for a run down Green Mountain Canyon on the Blue near Silverthorne in two weekends. skideeppow have you ever done that run?

Been looking at the Werner Singer paddle for a while now, have you used it yet? I have a C4 Fiberglass with a large blade, so works great for flat water, and bracing, but seems way to big for river.

Here's me on mine, in action last night, hole surfing  ;D

Just got my new Sweet Strutter helmet and have not used it yet (been doing more lakes since the rivers have gone down so much) and it seems to fit like a glove on my melon of a head, plus my sun glasses fit perfect and do not get pushed down like my old helmet. Pricey but from what I have heard the best!

Yes - Well worth the money. I have a massive head and it fits perfectly :)

So do I, everyone calls me Fat Head. Giant Irish head, my entire family has big heads. Scared for my kids. I got the Large/XL and its the first helmet that I had to put the supplied padding in to make it fit like a glove.

I've put the mini foam bits on each side just above my ears.

I have not done that run, and it is funny, i also have a monster melon and my stutter fits me as well.

As for the paddle, I use a werner stinger solid shaft.  I had the adjustable and the first time i used it it snapped in half.  I was on the water for about 15 minutes.  I was bracing on the wave in glenwood.
I had a post about it on mountain buzz a month or so aga and caught a bunch of shit.
Werners service was terrible.  They would not replace it.  Brand new, paid full retail and it had no use on it.
The guys at CKS took care of it.

So def go with the solid shaft one? I was thinking about the 3 piece for my iSUP bag, but if it broke like on you, not sure I want it now. Do you notice the difference in the blade compared to a traditional shaped tear drop blade? Its seems for sweeping, bracing, etc, it would be perfect for rivers. The guys at CKS are awesome, they have helped me out a ton and always give me straight forward answer, no BS at all.
