You read the memoirs of top athletes like Lance Armstrong, or Michael Phelps and you are in awe of their ability to overcome pain and exhaustion and their capacity to enjoy superhuman effort.

Agreed.  Practice starts at 4:20 by Michael Phelps completely changed my mindset and Consider Balzac: Doping without Detection by Lane Armstrong has squeezed some extra strength and endurance from my typical couch workout.

Dalidali--you've had some good thoughts about technique, etc. in the past but on this one I've got to side with SUP NINJA.  The video was a joke.  Nobody believes that this is how Danny Ching trains.  The original poster called it "Danny Ching reveals his training secrets" as a joke, too, because he undoubtedly never thought anyone could interpret it otherwise.

Nobody's arguing that intelligent, persistent hard work isn't the key to athletic success.  And of all people to take on about this, SUP NINJA is the wrong one.  He's had all kinds of great posts about hard intelligent training and nutrition over a long period of time.  Plus, he often reminds people of the importance of remembering to have fun (through choosing boards you don't struggle on, etc.).  It's clear he backs up what he says with how he lives also.

Whether he or anyone else here has official "credentials" doesn't matter.  Even without credentials myself, I was at least able to understand that the video was a joke.

And in regard to credentials, Doc Councilman--who very well could be as you said the top swim coach of all time--had credentials as impressive as anyone, yet within only a few years most of his theories about swim propulsion have been shown to be completely wrong.

Dalidali,

Are you high?

Ahh one of the reasons I love the Zone. Oops that's another thread. Maybe he needs to IF or be introduced to primal living. Isn't Danny's video a true reminder of why we enjoy this sport. Play old fashion FUN. Some guys just to serious about there training it becomes a burden and never enjoyable anymore. Maybe he needs more fat in his diet.LOL

dalidali

Sorry guys - I failed to percieve that you were NOT serious about that sort of "training". My fault! Somehow I had the impression that you thought that one can achieve what Danny has achieved without hard training.

adios pantalones

Geez Dalidali,  Glad you figgered it out. With all those workouts and peer reviews, somehow you were showing serious atrophy to your funnybone !  ;D

dalidali

stiffening of the neuropaths in the grey matter - you will get there too, no worries
