I'm just teasing you eb. Glad you confirmed what I thought. Great minds indeed.

Here's mine before the foam and duct tape and then a video of it finished.

Everyone should do this.

And the plugs? Any surf shop but if you're not near one, these are cheaper than getting hurt or hurting someone.

2 plugs for 10 bucks is ridiculous?  hmmm.  Guess I got really ripped off.   ::)

yep--your video was the source of my patent fraud!

i made mine a bit bigger because, with the surfco handle, when pushing down, i was crunching my knuckles into the deck, so i figured with the foam pipe, bigger diameter would prevent fingers from getting under the handle, knuckles against deck.

this early stage arthritis is pissing me off--little bumps coming in on knuckles over the past 6 months, some a bit painful if ddisturbed. sux--my doc says it's congenital--guess what? both parents have/had, one with dupresne's contracture as well. so ima be living with this it seems--dont want to accelerate the worsening.

where did find 2 for ten?  if it's a local surf shop, no fair.  if it's mailorder, did that include shipping and what's the name o the shop?

Not sure what the shipping is.  I just ordered from Surfco.  But here is one that popped up on a search.

edit- 5 bucks shipping to FL

SUPJorge, fingers part way, loose grip. Eastbound 's  handle looks like the way to go. Hitting ace hardware next ;-)

RATbeachrider

With smaller and lighter board I no longer have the need for a tail handle.

madmax

I shoulda ordered 6 stick on's.  I see the light of the handle.

okay 15 for two plugs.  cheap if it saves some fingers, i guess.

my local surf shop sells em, too -- 1 plug for $10 at  warmwinds in narragansett, ri, the most ridiculously expensive surf shop in the known universe.  ugh.  but ... they do have a good surf cam!

I like the thicker handle to help keep my fingers from getting underneath. I think I'm going to add a pool noodle to the Surfco handle on my Vec. It makes for a great grip with just your fingers hooked over and the foam gives a little to help cushion the shock. I tried the pipe insulation but it wasn't quite thick enough. I like that the pool noodle is a bit denser feeling too. How thick you need it is likely a function of hand size too.

Same here......been happening for about two years for me...RA runs in the family. The worst one was the last knuckle of the middle finger on my right hand ....and that's the one I broke grabbing the damn leash.....looks like a small bag of walnuts now.... >:(

at my once-every-8 yr phys exam last week, when i mentioned my knuckles, my dr asked if that which ailled my mom and dad was RA or "inflammotory". i have no idea and dont know the diff--only know my 85 yo dad's been fist-bumping in lieu of painful handshakes for a years now.

next time i see him ill have him hold a paddle just to be sure I should live on!

About time I did this.  Used paracord, an 8" length of pvc riser pipe, 3 layers of foam pipe insulation and some pipe tape. Wish I could say, 'can't wait to try it!' but that means getting caught inside and I pretty much dread that because it's always big when that happens. Still, should be better than nothing and it looks/feels like I won't hurt my hand with it.
