I bought the material in bulk and keep it in my truck. If you guys see me at the beach hit me up and I'll put one on for you. Free of course. Good for safety!

I've been using about the same thing except I used surgical tubing.
Nice to have a certain amount of give to it. It has worked great so far.

I like to drop wing swallowtail you've got going on there TW.

Like the surgical tubing.  I'd want it to break if stretched enough.  Can't buy another hand

Can't beat the price.  I might try that today.  Gonzalo waves are due to hit today in FL.  I likely will put a stiffener piece of hard rubber in to keep it from clamping down on my hand.

Thanks.

Max,  ...my thought also.  That one looks like I'd shaking hands in biker bar with guys who didn't like my bow tie.

The hand clamping isn't too bad. I remember surgical tubing for my first leash and the bounce back was dangerous but maybe not so bad with a smaller piece like this. It would be great to design a leash where there's a piece of rubber integral with the handle parallel with the leash down where it ties onto the board and retracts tight to the leash until you need to grab onto it. However you slice it, a handle is a great addition.

Cheap and better than nothing but I wouldn't do it that way. It can still twist and trap. I have the NSI handle on one and a homemade on another, homemade is two glue on plugs with para cord between, a hard pvc tube inside of a pool noodle around the para cord, the whole thing wrapped in duct tape. There isn't enough slack in the cord for it to twist. The pool noodle makes it soft and a large grip, I just hook my fingers over it, not grab on.

I'll get one tonight. Only significant cost was the glue on plugs.

Not a great design. Might be OK for small stuff but in dynamic conditions it will trap your hand. At the very least you need two anchor points so you can make a handle that stays open under tension. You also don't want the force applied to the handle locking it down to the deck with your fingers under it. With a handle like that you'll experience a lot of the benefits of a tail handle which will encourage you to hang onto it in big waves, which might result in nicknames like stumpy.

I don't like flexible loops.
Anyone remember Strand Lepers missing digit?

the other day I grabbed my leash rail guard and the board pinched my middle finger between the guard and board..
Black and Blue...

I suggest having the Handle a ways away from the board so that if the board gets sideways or flipped you still have
some margin for safety.

This looks promising..at least you can release easily and not get caught.

I think you can put it in line behind the rail saver a ways...there is a hole in the middle.

Lawn Mower, Out Board Pull Starter Handle around a buck..
