You know, one of us idiots is going to strap a foil board to some funky ass motorcycle rack and find out that they can jump traffic if they "pump the bike."  Something's gotta be the next "thing."  ;D

For my dumb fuck move this week, I had Mr. Fugly (my Kalama board) tied down to the bed cover on my truck with the GoFoil locked to the rear rack with a bicycle lock. The nose of the board got loose on the highway to the Dalles yesterday and it whipped up with board stopped by the rear rack bar like a Stuka dive brake. The wind was wicked--whipping across the highway. I didn't have screws in the Tuttle (long story) so it pivoted partway out. I got out of the truck with a sinking heart. Yanked the GoFoil out of the Tuttle and inspected the box and foil. No damage. Stuck the foil in the back seat, and levered the board down from it's vertical position. Pulled it off the truck and inspected every inch. Nothing. I tied it down to the bed cover like a macrame project. I need a better long term solution. That scared the crap out of me. I thought I'd lost it all.

But hey, now we know that Dave Peterson glasses a wicked tough board, and we need to give Dave some credit too, a conventional board would have been wrapped around that rack bar. Mr. Fugly be tough as well as pretty.

For what it's worth, I drive around with my foil on the roof of the car all the time.  At first, I admit, I was a bit nervous about the foil creating some sort of resonance thing and ultimately exploding.  To make sure this wasn't going to happen I tied a cord to the fuselage and held the other end in my hand, while driving,  to inform me of a possible meltdown.  Nothing happened.  No flutter, no resonance, no nothing!  55, 65. 75mph!  Nothing.  Let's face it.  They are designed to fly through a medium 815 times more dense than air.  I think we are OK.

Logically it makes sense but I still can't believe it.  Makes me want to test out the window.  Like touching the horse fence.
