Paddle was run over. I want to cut out the taped part and remount the handle.
It will be for my girlfriend to use, and the length when repaired will be perfect for her.

How do I get the handle off?  I have epoxy glue, so the mounting part won't be an issue.

Thanks.

I feel like such a noob.

Bummer

I just cut one down to make it shorter. I cut the handle flush, thought I would be able to make small cuts in the shaft stuck in the handle and pull it out. that seemed like I was going to mess it up but doable. I then changed my mind I left the piece of shaft in the handle I took a 1/2 x 10 inch dowel glassed it with carbon and a 4 oz piece of glass for sanding. gave it a quick sand with 80 grit to smooth it out. then fitted it to the handle it fits inside the piece of shaft i left in for strength. Used 5 min epoxy to fit the handle and dowel together. After that dry ed the dowel was a little small going in the paddle shaft. I then used the 5 minute epoxy to do a rub on the dowel to thicken it. The rub is using a gloved hand to put the epoxy on. After drying light sand trying the fit in the shaft. I used tape on the tip end of the dowel so no wiggle in the paddle shaft then by the handle. I then use electrical tape to hold it in. You could use hot glue. This way makes it adjustable and that was what I was after. So far strong and no problems, I'll try and post a picture later. Good luck.

you'll have to reshape the handle socket no doubt, as you will be into the oval part of the shaft once you cut it down.  Should be doable with a round backed file, but will need some care and time to do it right.

You gotta tell - how did you run it over?

"Paddle was run over", yep he must have done it.  ;)
Kinda like "I've got this friend...........".
It takes a quiver to do that.

How come the girl friend always gets stuck with the old used stuff ?

KIALOA does sell the handles separate and some shops carry them.  One word of caution, the shaft changes shape as it goes down towards the blade.  You can only cut off so much before it does not fit the handle anymore.
Lots of foil boards 6'7"-7'4", L41 TVD's and Jimmy Lewis Strikers..

Depending on how it was mounted it may be easy to remove when heated.  Worse case you're cutting and boring

For some reason, I put the paddle on top of the black rental Ford Flex after surfing Puamana on my Maui trip last September. I never do that. I turned out of the parking lot and the paddle went into the road.  As I was hurriedly backing up, I watched in the rear view mirror as a car ran over it.

Fortunately, it only cracked it.  After taping it up, it paddles the same and no water has gotten inside the shaft. It was a perfect excuse to get a new paddle. It's just the backup now. Horrible on my shoulders, by the way...almost zero flex and no dihedral.

And now you know, the rest of the story.

Good day!

Thank you for all your help, everyone. :)

Here is the handle

Use a hair drier set on high to heat up the handle, once hot to the touch lightly tap the handle alternating sides and applying heat. If it was put on right, it won't come apart right away, be patient and keep heating the handle and tapping it. Once the bond breaks continue tapping the handle on both sides. It will come off and once cleaned can be epoxied back together again.

I got the handle out no problem. But I cut down the shaft too far into the oval part, and now the handle won't fit back on. It's okay, I'll get to it at a later date or just give it to someone here who wants it.  FREE.

Hey CS thats an easy fix snce the handle is just caron fiber over foam. Just "Dremmel" the hole to fit; should take less than five minutes.
