E-Z plug installation - help needed!

I just purchased an E-Z plug decking kit. The kit includes a tube of super glue to attach the plugs. Elsewhere on this forum I read that the plugs have come with 2 sided mounting tape. I am reluctant to use the glue. Has anyone else used the glue? Can anyone recommend a waterproof mounting tape to attach the plugs? Thank you.

I used the glue and it worked fine.  You need to clean the area where the plugs are going to go with rubbing alcohol and rough up the spots with some fine grit sandpaper.

They stopped using tape because it didn't last. Use the glue.

Thanks fro the replies.  The reason I asked was that I may want to remove the plugs someday.

Not sure about removing them once they are in place... I've decided this first board is gonna get decked out for anything and everything.  After I get a clue as to what I'm actually doing I'll probably buy another board that is specific to whatever I enjoy most.  Starting to rig for fishing now!

You can't get them off once glued. I tried to remove them from a kiteboard. I had to grind the plug off.

No way to pry, cut, or even get super glue remover to make them budge.

Install the handle flat and tight as possible. It will stretch and loosen over time.

I'm pretty sure the individual plugs still have the peal-off sticky backing and it's just the two plug and handles that now have the glue.. Is that right?

What is the purpose of the plugs? .. If it's just to bungee stuff on the deck of the board the peal-off sticky back type are fine.

The plugs did not come with tape, just the glue. I plan on using for strapping down pfd, h2o, etc... Local boat shop said to use some 3M Marine Grade Silicone - supposedly it will be strong enough as an adhesive but  will still allow for removal.

You can get the strong double side tape at auto parts stores. Ask for the stuff used to hold body side molding on. I'd use that before I'd use silicone.

I would use the glue it came with, I did just put a handle on one of my boards with waterproof gorilla glue. Did it for a test I normally use epoxy,

good luck

On the topic, anyone know a cheap source for EZ Plugs?  I right away mount 4 on each board I get, to bungee a PFD to to adhere to our local marine police regs.  Cheapest I find are $5 a pop, pricey for 4 plus shipping.  Any shops or online places out there that offer a discount, maybe for quantity?

Just a FYI note about EZ Plugs: EZ Plugs are made by SURFCO, Hawaii. The first generation of EZ's came with the peel-off back/sticky tape application. SUP owners were using the plugs as carrying handles. After several plugs failed (as carrying handles) due to the weight of a SUP, they discontinued the sticky-back application and began marketing their plugs with glue, which has superior holding power.  By the way, SURFCO Hawaii paid for repair of damage incurred by failure of their sticky back plugs when used as anchor points for a carrying handle. A first class business with integrity... now there's a candidate for the endangered species list  :)

an fyi, if you put bungy, if it's stretched too tight, it'll pull one or a few plugs off in time.  epoxy is a backup for the glue.  NSI Plugs are good too, or just install leash plugs for a true anchor that is flush with the board deck.

New to this sport, coming from kayaks and canoes than can easily be drilled and screwed.
Have an Epoxy touring style board, rigging for fishing, and need a couple tie downs in a place where there is no attachment point and would like to add a carry handle on each side for easier single-handed loading up/down/on/off car.

I've seen the E Z Plugs and carry handles, online, and read good and not so good. Assume they all come now with glue. super-glue type, for installation.

Will Epoxy, west System 105 or G-Flex, work to adhere these type items to the board ?
Does anyone have experience and or other suggestions ?
