Hi

I would like to install a small mast track on my 10ft SUP. Where is the best position for this size board? (how far from the tail)

Thanks

Cape.

I've been pretty happy with right in the middle.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

I measured a bunch before i dropped a box, and 73" from the tail to center of box ended up working well.

Make sure you build up box with divinycell/ or similar then rout to size
Too many for the rack
Some in the shack
Some under decks
Some have straps

If you epoxy the mast track into a divinycell box and epoxy that into the board.  Will this be strong enough or is glassing required?  How big does the divinycell box need to be?

An ancient article in Ponohouse on how the guys at Ding King did it to my JL 11'7" -- still my favorite board to sail. http://www.ponohouse.com/ponoblog/2007/02/a-little-more-ding-king/

Yes, you need glass, in fact it's a good idea to do two layers, one under the mast track and one on top. For the under layer, just wet out the glass and poke it around the slot until it's pushed in pretty well, then stuff the track in. It's a good idea to fill the track with something to keep the epoxy out, I've done it with wax, being careful to clean it off all the surfaces that you want epoxy to stick to--including the top.

Lay down your second piece, a little larger than the first. When I did my own board I put a piece of plastic wrap on top, then a piece of metal I had laying around that was about the size of a book, then a few weights to keep the track from popping up.
