Hey everyone,

I'm stoked to be heading to Wilmington, NC, the first week of April.  It's been 10 years since I've been there...did a beach camp drive down the Banks then.  I'll have a Starboard Blend 11'2 and a 14 Naish Glide.  My dad will be along with a solo canoe and an intent to do some fishing.  So we'll be splitting up and doing our own thing at times.  I'll be hoping for waist to chest surf and good conditions for a downwinders.

I've searched the forum and have gotten some good info and exchanged some PMs with some Zoners -- thanks!  I'm hoping for some more thoughts...and I'm just excited.

We'll actually be staying in Jacksonville.  I plan to go South to Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, Topsail and Surf City.  The main focus will be taking advantage of surf or downwinder conditions.  I'll only be in the area for  about 4 days.

Would I be spreading myself too thin to try to run up into the southern end of OBX as well?

I want to hit some key spots.  I intend to stay away from traditional surfers and line-ups of any size, even at the expense of better waves.

It will be years before I get to do this again and I'm flying blind with a few good tips in my pocket.

Any recommendations would be really helpful, including good food tips..we love seafood and BBQ.

If you just have 4 days, trying to do the Outer Banks as well will make you crazy.
You'll spend most of your time in the car. There is enough surf  in the Topsail/Wilmington area
to keep you occuppied. I mean, it's generally not big, but it's definately surf. The nice thing about a SUP board, is that you can have fun in waist to chest mushburgers.

Thanks.  That's what I've decided.  But is there a chance the surf would be better further north?  If so I could just rearrange.

Had such a good time, but it got cut short due to a funeral that came up.

Many thanks to Chill from Topsail who was very gracious and great to paddle with.  He is a awesome ambassador for our sport.

Also, Sidearm Surf and Skate was a core shop with dudes stoked on SUP.  Shop there when in Wilmington.  I hope to get back soon.
