A rare day in Plymouth

Forecast was for some small waves in Plymouth Sunday but I woke up with my head floating around so I wasn't sure I'd be up for it. But the vertigo calmed down a little later in the morning and I drove to the beach to at least take a look......I turned around immediately and went back to gear up...chest to head and clean is rare in Plymouth..no way I was missing it.

I was surprised when I got back to be greeted by another surfer. I rarely see anyone there but we had a nice conversation both on and off the water and traded waves for a couple hours. He was riding funboard and was good on it. We both got some great rides. When Plymouth is working it's such a fun spot. The shoals out front work like reefs with channels for an easy paddle out. It has multiple beach breaks all along the 3 miles of beach, points at either end (though a long paddle from the parking lot) and the playground that is Brown's Bank. We were surfing the shoals out front and while his rides were relatively short on the funboard I was able to make a few turns outside and carry my speed through the deep water inside of the shoals and get a second ride from each wave on the reform.

I was getting cold after a couple hours and my shoulders were feeling it so i called it quits.....went home and took a nap..... :)

I loved those little Nor-easter swell windows when I lived up there.  (Theres a reason that shop in Scituate is called Nor-easter Surf!)

I will admit- i was one of the shortboard haters back 15 years ago that would get a bit bummed by the longboarders sitting out back taking set waves on all the points up there.  Kind of ironic- that I now Sup as well and I'd probably be sitting outside everyone!

Thinking back that whole inner cape area is just a SUP playground.  Glad you got it good!

Thanks..it was a fun session...though I was aching looking outside...long lines of peeling waves at Brown's and bombs going off at the Gurnett.

My shoulders felt a little tweaked going into the water....:). I've been somewhat sedate...busy but not physical...the last month or so. I need to stop doing that...stopping even for a couple of weeks means pain when I start back up.

It is a SUP playground for sure...living smack in the middle of it with 4WD access to beach is simply awesome.

In a weird bit of synchronicity the surfer I met sent me a text message with some pics...I'll upload later.....a friend of his saw some drone pics on FB of someone surfing Sunday at Plymouth and sent him the pics asking if it was him...two shots of me..one paddling out and one on a wave.
