Homemade composite sandwich skin SUP

Here are a few pics of a project done using very basic materials available from hobby shops and hardware stores.  The blank was hotwired from a block of EPS special ordered from Home Depot.  The balsa planks are standard hobby shop stuff.  Glassing materials are also standard stuff.  It was designed for a flat water beginner plus pretty big dog.  It came out measuring 12' X 32" X 5" and so far has served it's purpose well.

Hey thanks you guys...

Regarding weight, it is quite heavy - around 40+ lbs(?)  I can live with it as a first attempt.

After pics of the Bill Foote custom downwinder , I'm brainstorming a lighter flatter rockered board as we speak.

Hi -

Ripley loves it.  He's been known to charge and jump on when no one is watching.  We've had to get help from a kayaker to retrieve him.  He hasn't figured out how to get back on his own.

He was out back with me during the build and was allowed to jump on at various stages to get the feel of it.

Sweet board. So did you apply the veneer directly to the foam and glass over it or did you layer it

It is a sandwich composite skin both sides with EPS/glass/balsa/glass (bottom) and EPS/glass/balsa/carbon+glass (deck.) 

I absolutely can not flex or dent it with my fingers on either side.  In retrospect, it is overbuilt and heavy.  It works great but is kind of tough for her to handle getting it on and off the car, etc.

Am working on a lighter version.
