So I'm doing the flatwater today, up and down Plymouth Beach and decide to come in to the beach , grab a Gatorade and  take a qiuck break. I put my board down and there is a group of three people in front of me. A guy about my age(mid forties), a woman slightly older, and this tanned, in shape, gym frequenting, rock solid, beauty queen .
" Is that hard to do" she says?" No it isn't" I say, as a matter of fact i'll show you how if you want. So I give her a quick lesson and she is off. I'm chatting with the guy and he's telling me that she has been wanting to try this for a while and blah blah blah. I figure out that this is his girlfriend, and although slightly disappointed at what a I thought was a great prospect, It was a beautiful day and it was nice meeting such great people.

About this time, I noticed she was traveling down the beach with the wind about 100 yards and would have to turn around and beat back into the wind. I told the boyfriend that I'm somewhat concerned, so I start walking down the beach, to tell her to come in and I would paddle my board back.

I get about 20 yards down the beach and I hear hey T... how are you doing? Its my ex sister in law that I haven't seen in 7 years, my former step daughter and then drumroll please, my ex wife with whom I have a contentious relationship with at best and have hardly spoken to in 7 years.  Awkward moment, wanted to just shrivel up and disappear." How do I get out of this" I'm thinking to myself. Then it hits me. "You'll have to excuse me , I'm concerned about my girlfriend getting back on my board gotta go!

So iI continue down the beach , lucky to extricate myself from that situation, another 50 Yards ,where she came in  to shore.

"You'll never make it back" I say," I'll paddle us both back. So I get on the board with her in front on her knees, me in back, standing up and mustering every ounce of skill in me to paddle back. You had to be there. 10 yards offshore, me and the beauty queen... hardly anyone in the water...gliding by my ex wife... priceless... They left 10 minutes later.

I was out in Plymouth yesterday too but didn't have any hot babes on my board... ;D. I did talk to the wife/owner at Plymouth Water Sports, they may start renting SUPs soon. They were fueling up their boat at the dock when I paddled by and started asking questions....the wife is very interested....and she is kinda cute... ;D

Watch out for tickets if you put in at Nelson park...lot was overflowing, had to be 50+ cars parked along the street. Was pissed to get whacked for $30. Paddled into the harbor, out to the backside of Long Beach...caught a LONG ride on a Capt John wake to the point. It was crazy in the gut, chop coming from every possible direction at once, crazy workout to get out around Brown's Bank. Found some little shin high waves on the outside and played there for awhile. Over to Gurnett/Saquish...huge school of big stripers in the cove tearing up a bait ball had me wishing for my rod....always a beautiful paddle along there...crystal clear water and usually lots of sea life.

My first longish paddle getting ready for CCBC 2012. Give me a yell if you want to get some training in. I usually do a loop in the bay, about 12 miles and I often find some small waves on the outside of Brown's to play on. We should also watch for the right conditions to make Brown's light up. You won't believe what it's like when that happens.

Great story and great quick thinking.  Just realize that if your ex is like most other ex-wives, her version of it--no matter what she actually thinks--will be a bit different than yours:

"You'll never guess who I ran into at the beach--my ex!  Making a fool of himself like usual--trying to paddle a surfboard with a rowboat paddle.  AND he was holding it backwards so he couldn't even scoop the water!   He even has a new nickname for himself.  Get this--"Hobie".  He wrote it on the side of his board.  OMG!!! Hobie?!?   ::) ::) ::) And he had some bimbo with him!  Talk about low standards on her part!  Has to be damaged goods.  Obviously just there to help him with directions so he could find his way along the shoreline lol!"

Weed

Geesus H, Todd... in the beginning I was visualizing a scene from the Wizard Of Oz where the wicked witch of the east hoped on her broom with her army of furry friends and set out to get Dorothy and Todo. But in this story she would hop on her paddle board with her BROOM and set out to get you. Anyway, I'm glad it had a happy ending.

Next time you run into your ex just click your flip-flops three times and repeat, I just want to get back to Kansas, I just want to get back to Kansas, I just want to get back to Kansas. Well, maybe not Kansas. How about, I just want to get back on the water. Yeah, do that three times.

Todd... Ring a Bell? I wonder what type of paddle she is using?

LOL... sorry, couldn't resist.

Stoneaxe- Could have written your exact post a week ago. Mailed my $30 dollars off to some outfit in New York that processes Plymouth's parking tickets. WTF? I wrote "Yankees suck" on the back of the envelope. Immature I know, but somehow satisfying.
I've done that loop. Nelson to Saqiush can be a bit hairy with the chop and an absolute ripping current. That is one spot where I have actually been pretty nervous on my board. Caught a bit of a ride on a Captain John boat too. Funny looks you get from tourists!
Here's another option: Nelson park to Snug Harbor in Duxbury. There is an absolutely delicious seafood restauraunt called Snug Harbor Fish Company near the Marina with outside seating only. After an almost 5 mile paddle there a few weeks ago, I had a nice soft shell blue crab sandwich, followed by a BBQ salmon sandwich (We burn off alot off calories as you know and tend to eat a ton when doing this) Anything from this place is a winner. I then returned around the Standish Monument to Rocky Nook in Kingston and back to Nelson. Thats about a ten mile paddle. All the while, pulling in to some random spot, and being offered a water or Gatorade from some nice people.
And check out Google earth near the guard shack at Gurnet, see that Sandbar? Its def. surfable. I don't mind giving up my spot here because there is no parking out there unless you know someone ;)
I'm praying for swell on Saturday Stoneaxe, but if none I will be up around plymouth, maybe we could do a long run if it works out. Even Sandis to the point and back  a few times is fun

LOL...i wonder if your ticket ended up in a round file.... ;D

It really does get crazy in the gut....I always feel like I've accomplished something if I manage to stay upright the whole time. Boat traffic can get crazy too..especially later in the afternoon with beer fueled bravado and close passes. That worries me more than anything else. I watch boats closely and am prepared to dive deep if necessary.

I've surfed that spot...a couple of years ago I paddled around the point and was rewarded with some waist high clean waves. They weren't making it into the bay...only knee high at Warren Cove./Long beach and almost nothing on the bank. Definitely be nice to drive there... ;) ;)

Same here...looks like there will be some down south. I'll be hitting some shops but def time for waves. dawn patrol likely.
