I'm a trainer, not a SUP expert... but I'm feelin it now -  got SUP on the brain... unfortunately I only get out in the summer (so far).  I'm looking  to try the indo board and other training ideas/equipment I see on this board... In the meantime, I take one day a week at the gym and mess around with this stuff... not hi-tech, just doing the most I can with what's available*... constantly changing up the conditions and getting comfortable with stressful challenges makes me more confident getting aggressive out on the water...and lots of these moves are just good/fun exercises to mix into interval training.

*bosu combinations, fitness balls, rollers, med balls, skateboard deck, body bars, stretch bands.... (tried a new one today w/ step-up platform floating on 2 small fitness balls - was fun but dangerous w/ lots of bail-outs)

It seems like any upper body work out while ballencing is bennifical for stand up. One of lairds work outs is on you tube he does similar stuff.

Agreed...combining upper body w/ balancing makes nice (full body) exercises that can benefit SUP.  For me, it was the balance training component that was most beneficial initially.  Starting SUP at 50+ years old, with a long vacation from board sports in general and limited time on the water... I was looking to reduce the anxiety factor that was detracting from endurance and ability to focus on better/stronger paddling...  Getting aggressive with a variety of balance challenges in the off season helps me to relax on the water and get after it...  This is probably not such an issue for more experienced paddlers with lots of time on the water.

(sorry should have posted this in "Training.." category)

I could feel the pain just watching :o

surf monkey

that is crazy balance

I am afraid to get on my kids skate board in fear of getting hurt and not being able to paddle. That's all i need is to go in work and tell em I was standing on a ball. For me it's always the silly stuff that takes me out. Thanks for sharing I enjoyed watching.

I take my kids to the beach and have them stand on a volley / soccer ball the roll and fall is not so bad.

Training on the bosu is excellent...I try to do cable work while on the bosu...ex high to low pulls....anything on one leg is gr8....of course nothing is better than ocean paddling when it's windy....I find concept 2 rowing also helps with upper body endurance....you balance will suffer when you start to fatigue....everything will come apart....you need to work the whole machine to really get out thee and enjoy SUP
