Still SUP, but the weather on the weekends has conspired to keep us out of the water.  Had the boards loaded and ready to go in Santa Barbara the weekend before Christmas and it was waaaay too big for me.  By what we saw, it was way too big for all but about 5 guys in the water.

I'm a bit surprised anyone remembers that I was working on a book called the retirement trap. I barely did.
I guess we can look forward to your next book on selective memory  ;)

Thanks a bunch for the link.  There is a wealth of life experience here in the zone.  You and Supthecreek are two of the vanguard I get to keep an eye on, to see what works well and to learn from any mistakes.

My wonky corporate appreciation sign-off has been deleted for fear of vomit-inducement flashbacks,
Jim.

We went from Chromecast to Apple TV recently.  All the gremlins were slain in one fell swoop.  Only took me 7 years to pull the trigger...

Bill,
My son has the investment bug and I was telling him about your book on retirement.  Sure enough, I clicked the link and got the "fail" screen.  Is there another way to that gem of wisdom.  We want to go over it together and compair what I've done vs his plan (probably not a ton of variation).  We're sharpening the blades of why we work, what we do, and how we choose to live now.  I really enjoyed your "Man-up and take charge" message for people worrying about retirement.

(PS...I know we don't all frequent the Zone as much as the SUP heyday, so an answer whenever you get a chance is appreciated)

Wife's cousin and her family lost their house (albeit a rental).  Escaped with little more than the clothes they wore.  She just had enough time to warn a few neighbors that were sleeping still.  Very close but her, her husband and 4 kids all are safe, and that's what counts.

What lake is that?  ;)

Shorty SUPs are wonderful once you catch the wave.  My problem was that I grew to like some paddling glide to catch waves.

that Zane is a gymnast with a board and paddle.

Looks like a fun board.  I rode a similar model back in ... well, it was a while ago.  I remember going a wee bit dizzy looking at the deck pad.

Rolf,
We'll be up visiting my daughter on the weekend of 12/3 and 12/4 if you feel like a surf.
I shared your article with friends and coworkers.  It was certainly better told than my stammering and arm waving rendition.  ;)
Til next meetup,
Jim

I've never been to Florida, but my TV is showing me pictures of the mess.  Any news from the zoners in the area?

As someone who is surrounded by extremes of vax and antivax, I always try to listen to both sides.  I've had the first two shots, after getting covid.  Haven't had omicron yet, but I fully expect to get it.  I'm not getting a booster.  Let nature do it's worst.  I'm part of the herd.  I have a higher chance of dying on So Cal freeways everyday, my chance of survival would go up with a week or two off work.  :)

Literally everyone I know and come in contact with has had Covid recently... boosted to the hilt and the Sans-vax.  My wife's school has 30% of the kids and teachers out, as does my son's 150 person workplace.  The tsunami is here.  Duckdive!

General Discussion / Re: Any info about this board?

Everyone I've known that owned or owns this board raves about it's surfability.  I demo'd one at Doheny, and loved it.  Surfed great, nose rides like a dream. They are quite thin and fragile near the nose so don't go off-road during noserides, but other than that, it's a keeper for sure.
