In waves the water does get deep enough in the sound .... eventually. Just accept that you need to walk out  a few hundred yards depending on your mast length. Look on google earth and you can see the lighter areas where it is shallower further out and the darker areas where it is a bit deeper. You can foil all the way back in. it probably quicker to walk a bit than drive to nags head or avon.  Lots of good ocean spots pretty much anywhere  in waves if swell is small to medium and your skills are up for it.

Starting to get a bit more into jumping and my +10 L (107 L FSM for a 220lb rider) feels big in the air, but will still be the board I need to ride 80% of the time in the summer as our wind dies sometimes and need to schlog in. Reminds me a of jumping oversized windsurfing boards back in the day

For jumping on windy days what is a good size that is still relatively easy to get going, but a little more controllable in the air, -10 L, -20 L, -30L ? or all the way down to prone foil surf boards in the 50-60 L range

Both have a few minor scratches, but otherwise in good shape. 350$ for the 860, 300$ for the 660.

I put one of the NSI plastic hooks on a mystic stealth slider rope spreader by running some thin spectra loops through the rope slider holes and then  attaching a piece of webbing between the loops. I added a bit of bungy on one side to keep it tight.  Works great and twists sideways when climbing on to the board and stays straight while riding.  If I over stitch my sewing on the webbing a  bit more  I could probably use the same harness for kiting if needed as a regular slider, without using the nsi hook.

hmm wonder who will come out with a board with a removable wedge so you decide what tail shape to have on a given day/foil.

Ok, now that this turned into a thread about ebikes. 

Has  anyone built a trailer to tow wingboards and a few wings behind a ebike.

If so, how did it work? We have lots of beaches but a lack of beach parking here so thinking about this option

At 230 lbs with wind in the low to mid 20s and gusts to upper 20s, touching 30, I was  just a bit over powered yesterday with the 4.5 ensis in the stronger gusts so ordered the 3.5 when I got off the water .. looking forward to pushing into slightly windier conditions

I've been out in a few fairly cold sessions recently with air temps from 28 to low 30s, water in the mid 30s and also kiting in these conditions and winging works surprisingly well, maybe a even a  bit easier on the fingers than kiting. With modern wetsuits keeping the core warm is easy, just the fingers are the issue.  The only time I have have had forearm/cold hand issue is when under powered and can't hook in to my harness. I'm unhooked most of the time just hooking in a for short  upwind run lets the blood back into my finger. I think the reason winging works well is even though I grip harder than kiting I go on short tacks and switch up my grip more. Kiting I tend to get stuck with same grip for longer periods as need longer tacks to get back upwind.

The only bummer about winging vs kiting in the cold is with a kite I can stay dry getting on the board, while winging have to get wet walking out into deep enough water to start but that's just mental. The really good thing about winging is I am often going solo as not too many others like the cold and winging feels so much safer than solo kiting in confined onshore spots

Do the full on sinker boards make it easier in high wind? I haven't tried one yet but would think if I could jam my feet into foot straps and easily get the board low in the water  then should be able to get my weight over the sunken board and  get moving. 

Maybe for high wind we should be riding very thin, but still reasonably wide boards (skimboards with foils?)   so only a little motion gets the board up and out of the water

Looking for a way to play on the waves at my local beach when putting up a 5m kite feels to sketch. So winds over avg low to mid 40 gusts to upper 40s maybe occasionally to 50 mph. after that the kite can't really handle it and starts feeling very dangerous with a kite in the sky.  Maybe even just a downwinder  with a few good whipped in waves would be fun..

Any thoughts from the gorge guys..do you guys foil in conditions when the windsurfers are juiced on sub 3 m^2 sails?

So what's the deal with winging in very strong wind. Does it work?  Do the small wings hold up to the big forces?

There are some really nice looking wind waves at the beach near my house at 40+..just hard to figure out a way to get on them. Don't want to go back to windsurfing as although a small ws sail can handle the wind, it sucks for onshore waves. Would be fine with a wing powered downwinder. Not sure a foil would work as the water is very rough, but maybe folks from the gorge have experience winging in these conditions, when the windsurfers are on under 3.3 m^2 sails?
