3 piece paddles ... Length of sections?
« on: April 26, 2014, 08:48:39 AM »
Anyone here have either a 3 piece Werner or Naish (Makani vario)?
Are the sections equal in length (ie., 81" / 3 = 27")?

It would be nice to have a paddle that I could fit in checked luggage to avoid additional and/or oversize charges.  Obviously there's trade offs such as weight and performance etc, but looking at what some airlines are charging, I think the cost would be pretty easy to amortize..

Thanks

DS

The only info I could find was on the Werner Fiji 3-piece.
It is not equal lengths, the blade end piece is 35" long - which is too long to fit in any standard type travel suitcase.
So the question stands for the higher end Werners and the Naish...

werner fuse 3 pc

Blade 34
Middle 35
handle 20 something.  I already forgot.

I think the range is 78-82" for my paddle.  I pack it in a hockey bag with my inflatable.

Thanks Juan...

Maybe I'll just rethink my check in bag.  A hockey bag or similar is a good idea.
Though I recall seeing an overall size of 62" (meaning add up length/width/depth of bag... Ugh)

My hockey bag is right at the limit or maybe a little over.  Since it is soft-sided, I don't think they can tell.  For some reason, the TSA always opens it to see what's inside.

I have 3-piece Werner Nitro, 74"-81.5" size. The longest section (blade) is 34.25" and just barely fits in a large suitcase diagonally. I posted this picture on another thread, but can't seem to find it, so here it is again. Checked as regular baggage with Air Canada.

Thanks Beaner .. That's exactly what I needed to see.  (F&*%ing Air Canada and their excess/oversize charges.. )
Looks like I'm shopping for a three piece Werner.)

I believe those Starboard middle sections are 41". Accent, Red Paddle Co and Epic paddles are around 34-36" for the longest section.

$119 for that paddle, good price for a family/travel paddle. Any other 3 piece paddles out there that are lighter and not $400+?
