Hi ,

I'm after some training programmes as I'm looking to have a go at some races this year.
I have a good weights/cardio programme ,and are how after a SUP programme for when I'm out on the water paddling.

This is my first post and I'm from New Zealand ,but now living in Australia and would appreciate some help on this topic.

Cheers

Welcome to the Zone Boylos...Where in Oz are you?..As for a training program I'm not sure what else there is but paddle, paddle, paddle, paddle..  ;D ..paddle up wind, paddle down wind, paddle across the wind... etc.

Cheers DJ ,I look forward to paddling into the sunset!
I'm in Sydney ,and not far from the bays and beaches .
My plan is to start off in the flat water bays ,then tackle the waves .
I also surf a 9ft 6 Mal ,and enjoy coming to Hawaii at least once a year.

You should join the WindSurf n Snow guys on one of their down-winders.

How does 17.4 km (11 miles) in 1hr 55min sound...  :)

Also...You should try and make it down for the Mambo in Nowember.. http://www.standupzone.com/forum/index.php?topic=1995.0

Cheers DJ , these are the guys I bought my board off.

They are about a 1 1/2 hr drive away from where I live.

Thats a big paddle ,and something I would have to build into ,but I'll get in contact with them about Mambo in November .

Hello and Welcome Boylos.....Like DJ says......it's all about time on water in different conditions. Take a look at the training diary for the CCBC http://www.standupzone.com/forum/index.php?topic=1315.0 . Everything counts.....my favorite workout is on windy choppy days.....fight against the wind and chop for a mile or so and then turn and run with it.....repeat until you can't do anymore. Broad circles in the same conditions works great too.

Good luck!

Thanks Stoneaxe ,appreciate the tips and the website .

Its winter here ,and one of the coldest since I've been here ,just waiting for things to warm up a bit so I can rip into it.

11 miles isn't all that much, especially for a downwinder, but an hour and 55 is pretty impressive. I'm struggling to get my five mile flatwater sprint under an hour. Of course it's a two direction and I deal with a brisk current, but still, that's fast time. I find my second sprint is faster than my first--I generally do two a day, with a mile or so of easy paddling between them.

I'm REALLT interested in training programs. I'm going to work on that a lot for Ke Nalu. Bob (Stoneaxe) and I have a weight bet going on, but I want to get in shape both for racing and for surfing this winter. I don't want my fat ass holding me back.
