Should i get this fixed???

I tried to take the best pics i could with my dumb phone and i'm asking because i'm not really very familiar with glass as far as well, anything other than a clearly obvious hole.
   First is this crack here...

I can feel the crack when i run my finger across it. I know it's not pictured but the rest of the box (even under fin) looks ok.
the next area is the handle on the deck...

It is actually smooth like i don't know what it used epxoy? resin? is over it, but there is a defined "ridge" like it is about to crack through. I don't know why it's black in the crack either. i don't know if it was a repair or it is from its current state it is in.
I plan on keeping this board as long as i can so I'm nervous of it getting water damaged internally. Should i get these fixed, or try to fix them myself, or leave them???

When in doubt.....have it checked out.

Hard to tell from the pictures, but a good board repair person in your area will be able to tell you immediately.  The last thing you want is to guess wrong and continue to get water in the board if indeed it is leaking now.

Being in FL, I would guess that there are plenty of good repair guys/gals out there....get it looked at by a professional if you're unsure.

JMO, obviously....but what I would do if I were you.

You are definitely taking on water at the fin box.  You are probably taking on water (maybe a lot) at the handle.  Both need to be fixed before you go back out.

ok , thnx. I wasn't sure. I havent ridden it much (2 times)since i noticed the crack line at the box. I got a guy around the corner that does glass.
Sorry for the noobish post, i honestly thought i was being overcautious and bein a baby and coming off like any little blemish and i need to run off and get it taken care of. I truly am ignorant when it comes to boards which is why i ask.  thnx again.

Boards are expensive and there's nothing wrong with being over cautious.

These things are similar to that old Fram oil filter commercial....."You can pay me now, or pay me later". :D

Note to self..... I can pay now or I can really pay later.  Thanx for the look and advice

go to boardlady.com and read the water in board section.  follow her direction on how to checking for possible leaks. Try to learn how to fix the repair yourself, it will save you a lot of $$ and time  in the long run.

Thnx ucycle, headed there now to do some reading up.

Instead of starting a new thread I thought I'd just add the  repairs made here. Picked up the board yesterday and I would really like some opinions ( I can take more pics if needed in different lighting).
    How would you rate these?

The handle

I'm asking rate/opinion because I've seen repairs before that I could never tell where the board was repaired. And based on my very limited exposure to glass repairs I'm not too thrilled right now.

Repairs looks about average for ding repair.

I've seen ding repairs come back with paint over spray on the fins, on deck pads, horrible color matching, etc.  From a big factory that brags about their quality.

I think the finbox looks pretty good.  Color is tough to match, if the fin alignment is good, and the bottom shape is unaltered, you're 95% there.

What might concern me are (what look like) bubbles around the new handle.  If that is what I'm seeing, it might be an indication that there is still significant moisture inside (with some perking-out during the repair).  But, I'm hoping that its only a little rough and will be covered when you re-glue the pad.

Thnx, the repair was somebody I've never used before, the guy that fixed this board last time did an awesome job, so I see the difference in work quality is why I was questioning it. The repair guy I was familiar with quit repairs and now shapes only for some company.
Those look like some bubbles of some kind to me also, or like its "patchy" if that makes sense. Gonna go check alignment today now that i've  got time.
Stoked to get it back though cause I'm taking it with me for two weeks to chill around Sebastian. Now if I can just stay outta the oyster beds I'll be alright.

tautologies

for these expensive boards my rule of thumb is as follows:

If I have to ask, then get it checked out (or do the repair).

Otherwise it will just keep me thinking about it and eventually ruin my sessions.

Agreed on the fin box.  Looks pretty good.

The handle is a tough one.  I really like my ding guy as he's really good about setting expectation and whether or not he'll be able to get things back to "perfect and unnoticeable" and what it would cost for different stages in between.  With something like this, I could imagine his "done right" scenario would involve completely stripping off the deck pad, doing the repair and then replacing it with a new one.  What you have looks a bit more like a quicker scenario which would save me some money but I'd still know it's there.

May not be a bad fix, so long as the repair guy made it very clear and you that's what you were expecting it to look like.  A couple little things that concern me are 1) it looks like the pad wasn't cut straight and I would think someone experienced with SUPs would be able to make a straight clean cut of a deckpad and 2) I can't tell if there isn't any resin pooled up against the recess made by cutting the deckpad.  You wouldn't want there to be any difference in surface level.

That said, boards get nicked and my most-loved boards have battle scars so I'm not concerned about them looking perfect.  Provided the handle patch is good and sanded nice and smooth, you could save the scenario by taking off a larger section of the deckpad and creating some variety or pattern.  Even just a diamond or design inlay or something around the handle.  Could look sharp and next thing you know everyone will want one.

^^^^ well I told the guy he has a month, yes 4 weeks until he heard from me. And I even told him he could have stripped that complete section of traction ( about 18"x 18") since I'd be replacing it all after vacation anyways.  I didn't see any pooling of resin at the edges of the traction cutout. I guess I'm stuck with it, I think from now on I will ask to see first hand examples of repair work before just handing my board over to some random shop.
The last repair (tail/stringer from flying off the roof rack) I had came out so awesome beyond my expectations that I gave a $60 tip , I'm not rich , it just means that much to me to get quality work done.
Anywho, thnx for the feedback I really appreciate it a lot. And hopefully I'll see a few around on the water next month.
