Call me crazy, but I think the pursuit to be on the shortest board possible is a fruitless one.

Especially for Tybee Island.  But finding the right size for you and your waves is a personal thing.

Agreed.
I went to a mid 7'9" board for a while and used it in a few areas and conditions, but when I went back to  9' range boards I had to admit to myself that I was catching more waves and having more fun even though I felt like I had the skills to ride the 7'9". And I still feel like I'm getting good turns and maneuvers in while spending more time smiling.
I hate to see someone fall into the shortest board possible trap when a little more length might suit them better.

Tybee,

Absolutely, we don't ever want to fall into the standard shortboarder trap of a 6'0" thruster or nothing!  On New Years Day, when it was zero to 1 foot and not really breaking... I broke out the 9'5" ... and had a FREAKING blast!  Horses for courses as Pono likes to say.

Those must be the conditions you need for the "toe surfing" that I've heard about.
