SUPfoil is awesome

Its been quiet in here for a while.  I just wanted to take a moment and share that I think SUP foiling is awesome.  This morning's session really reinforced it once again for me.  Glassy, tiny, and not quite the right tide or swell direction for any local spots.   I went out anyway and ripped up every little ripple that came through.  At least 50 other people were out sitting around on their longboards relaxing (very very few waves ridden that I could see).    No less than 5 people came to talk to me as I was getting out of the water because it was just so obvious that foiling is amazing even in the most ridiculous conditions.

I'm paddling the 8' barracuda, axis 1201, 14" KD marlin.   Its a ripple catching and pump back out machine.    Absolutely incredible.

If I could just bottle up this feeling and distribute it, there would be far fewer mental health issues in the world.

Slap a bumper sticker on the barracuda.

I am not the reason you're not getting waves. :)

I'm sold. I really want to get into SUP foiling but can't afford another board right now. I'm thinking of selling my surf SUP since I hardly ever use it. My Kalama E3 is not quite stable enough for me but something around 8' might be perfect.
Kalama E3 6'1 x 23" 105L
Axis HPS 930/980 / PNG 1300
Sunova Flow  8'10 X 31"  119L
Me - 6'0" - 165lbs - 67yo

Hell yes! I have this same setup. probably just you and me. Except my board is 8'4". I totally agree that this setup can catch anything that barely resembles a wave and fly forever. I winged it a couple days ago in almost no wind and was up on foil most of the time. I am running a 1deg shim under trailing edge of the Marlin and this seems proper. Are you shimmed? I have caught many unbroken ocean lumps on it too. Can't wait for my San Diego trip next month. This is the missing link to SD foiling for me which I have struggled with for years. SenditBro!

I run the Marlin at +4deg incidence with respect to the front wing incidence.  I use homemade leading and trailing edge v-blocks with a digital level to get things set up.  Getting the the tail angle dialed makes a pretty big difference, and its tricky because the axis fuselage tail mount doesn't match up with the KD tails so I had to sand some wedges out of plastic.

I have a theory that Axis fast follows everything KD's is doing - the progressive tails seem like direct copies of his original tails.   And new axis skinnies look exactly like the Marlin.    I almost bought an axis skinny, but decided to throw my money to the creator instead.  Same with the barracuda - it wasn't cheap, but I felt good sending my money to the fellow who pioneered the concept.
