Daughter's First Independent Paddle - Very Cute
« on: June 29, 2017, 07:07:56 PM »
I have twin daughters (fraternal, thank God). Miranda has been having socialization problems lately. She gets upset very easily, especially when something seems unfair. A few days ago she begged me to take her SUPing, and that seemed like a great way for us to bond.

I took her to the Croton River, which is one of the only sheltered areas to paddle. She was on the family Bic 8'4", which is a great board for little kids. Most of the time she was on her knees, but a few times she got up on her feet. I figured, no pressure. She should paddle as she wanted. She'll figure the whole thing out eventually. The paddle is about 3/4 a mile up river to some rapids. There's a nice swimming hole. Then back.

Enthralled with the chop.

The wind got a little intense for her on the way back, so I transferred her to my board and towed the Bic. Then she played with the camera and was just generally silly. We had a blast, and she got some confidence that she could handle a board on the water. She's still not ready for the open Hudson, but that will come in time.

With a trip like that, your daughter might have the urge to take up supping and it will stay with her for the rest of her life.

Thanks for sharing.

Enjoyed the vid as it kinda brought back some fond memories.  Our little girl is now a young lady and will be a nurse soon.  Our son is an engineer.  Cherish those moments as before you know it they will all be grown up.  Still remember vividly our kids as 4 and 6 year olds.  Those were special times.  Cute indeed.  :)

Thanks for sharing these special moments of yours! I have two young kids (4 and 2 years old) and can't wait to give them similar experiences! Good times!
