A more stylish surf hat?
« on: December 28, 2016, 03:49:17 PM »
Lost my DaKine surf hat after getting pounded by 5 wave, head high set this morning.  The little leash came right off my wetsuit zipper.  Need to replace it ASAP but all of the hats I see, including my old one, look really geeky to surf in.  Not that I care all that much, but it would be nice to be a little more stylish, since I have to buy one anyway.  Suggestions?

I've embraced the Kook and my favourite is the FCS Bucket Hat. Secures nicely with a chin strap and has a separate tether with a clip on it. I'm on my 2nd one in 4 years.. They also make one in a baseball cap style, with same chin strap and tether

The "Pono Hat"  I can see it now.  Is it too early to place an order? :)

Yeah, no.

The Pono Hat is not going to win any style contests, well, bad style maybe. As Rod Serling would say, imagine, if you will, a surf hat that strangely looks like some bad euro pro cycling cap, with a tiny little bill (no offense Pono), a strap and earflaps, like a snap hat for little kids. THAT's what I'm guessing the Pono Hat is going to be. Available in any color, as long as it's fluorescent orange. You can have my spot in line for ordering  ;D ;D ;D

Not to worry, we're not going to make them in Menehune size.

Is the PonoHat going to have a foil so you can dive in the wave and take off?

I've worn a trucker hat for years. If things get real, I flip it around backwards. You could spend an hour and make a leash but I've only lost 2 in 5 years so I don't worry about it. (Maybe there's my Pono Project for this winter?)

You can make one online that says something like, "my other board is shorter than yours "

Sounds pretty hip. Just grow a beard, buy tight pants and you can be a hipster.

When you've got Vanina and her friends voluntarily wearing your hat you know that you have indeed created something "stylish".

But it isn't ever going to happen, is it? Old men wear hats because they are going bald. The young have lustrous protection of their own. Plus safety equipment is not sexy because being safe isn't sexy. So I think maybe we had better settle for "works well" rather than "stylish"? By definition, whatever 80% of the forum members here would wear is not going to be "stylish". Or it might be until the point we don it.

But it's going to be entertaining to see where this goes.
