Do you ever wear sunglasses when SUP surfing? Maybe SeaSpecs.

I just started wearing prescription glasses 6 months ago. I have a pair of prescription Maui Jims but I won't wear them for surfing $$$$, so just trying to see the wave coming is a pain in the ass. I am going to investigate the potential of contacts for me. Acuvue brand contacts offer protection from uv light. Anyone surfing with contacts?

I always surf with contacts....I use the dailies ....chuck them out after I get home and out the specs back on. Never lost one....had plenty rinses in the surf lol!

I used contacts for windsurfing and surfing, but occasionally lost them mid-session. Mine were disposables, so the loss was no big deal, but still irritating. I eventually got Lasik, and it really changed my life. I have 20/20 vision after a lifetime of coke bottle specs. No astigmatism (used to be really bad), much better depth perception--my car racing improved dramatically, I can hit the same apex like clockwork now.  Surprisingly I rarely need reading glasses now--only for small type and close work. I don't wear them for computer work or reading my kindle, though I use larger type and probably a brighter screen than most folks would. But in good light, I can read small print.

I know my case is not necessarily representative--I had an excellent outcome and my eyes were well suited for the surgery. But I had it done more than ten years ago. From what I hear the technology is dramatically improved since then. If I had the choice over again I'd toss my glasses over my shoulder and run to the best practitioner I could find.

I wear sunglasses a lot now, generally Maui Jim water specs, but I also have Bombers. When the MJ's get fogged I just pull them down around my neck.

I love my SilverFish Rat II prescription sunglasses!!  I have a couple of pair for both sunny and cloudy days...a bit pricey but have been wearing them now for several years and would not be in the water without them even though my uncorrected vision (for distance) is not bad at roughly 20/80.

Back in the 90's I are started getting a Pterygium (aka surfers eye) which is a scary growth in the eye that  requires surgery to reverse when it gets past a certain point. It is caused by UV exposure and exacerbated by wind.

Since then, I have been using sunglasses with a croakie strap and a hat with tight strap. The pterygium eventually retreated without surgery for me. Even in a massive 15 ft face white water wash everything stays on  without problem with a solidly well strapped hat to hold everything on.

The key to not fogging is glasses that stay away from your face somewhat so they don't create a warm space of air between your face and glasses. That is what causes the fogging. If they do fog, you can pull them down the brim of your nose till they do clear.

Yech, that pterygium looks almost like an external cataract.  Really argues for wearing sunglasses.

I started wearing them on the afternoon sessions,  What  tipped it for me was a  surf session last year at about 1hour before sundown.    My eyes were on fire.  between the glare and  standing up the sun really really hurt  my eyes   so i wen tin and ordered some prescription sea specs.   I need to order some anti fog  because the droplet stick to the lenses and it makes it hard to see.  ousel just use a strap to the little  loop on the back of my wetsuit.
