Anyone ever SUP the Sacramento River?  I drove along the levy road on a detour caused by constructiopn on Rt 12 near Rt 5.  The wind was lined up perfectly with the river.  It looked like a SUP race track to me. Seemed like a multi mile fetch, with some interesting wind swell.

Yeah buddy. Mid week am and evenings are really incredidible.  We have the occasional hatch roll through- can be interesting, other than than its all good!  I live in the pocket area. Let me know and we'll paddle

I've had some fun runs on my old SIC 12'2" and my Javelin on the Sacramento River and San Joaquin River when it is really blowing (30 mph plus). My favorite run so far is during a northerly on the San Joaquin from the end of 12 Mile Rd in Lodi to the Stockton Sailing Club or downtown Stockton. I'm still figuring out the lower Sacramento (spent a couple hours clawing off a lee shore and dodging submerged steel pipes and snags recently after a late afternoon wind shift). The best bet during a strong westerly is probably Sandy Beach Park in Rio Vista to Viera's Resort or beyond.

I don't know where Rt 12 is but there was a paddle from Redding to Chico on Memorial Day weekend that was a lot of fun.  There's maps & info here: http://www.riversforchange.org/california-100/course-maps/   The rapids were pretty easy and there's plenty of places to drop in/take out along the way,

Sacramento River near Sacramento is filled with currents, eddies, delta winds, snags to break your fin, and drunk/stoned motorboat drivers, and occasional semi-submerged drowning victims. Did I mention the nasty water quality?
Only stupid paddlers would be out there.
I would suggest all SUP boarders steer clear of this area.                      ;)
