Was this a recent interview? He has been doing that for years already. He has a house on North Shore of Kauai (by Tunnels I think), and seems really like he caught the bug.

Wasn't DoubleZero recently in the news...something to do with restricting beach access near his property?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I seem to recall seeing pics/video of Vetea David SUPing in Tahiti right after he quit the World Surfing Tour.  That would have been many, many years ago.

Here in Colorado we're more likely to get Deliverance at the IMAX than Ultimate Wave Tahiti.

Where can I find info about the Boulder demo?
I would like to get an up close look at some river-running SUPs.
Thanks.

I need to get a river-running board.  Do you have any used ones for sale in Vail?

Bummer for Archie.  I don't know the guy personally.
I was in Maui in Oct...when asked where I was from and I replied Colorado, people would start chatting up Archie's SUP trek down the CO River.
He must have tons of friends which usually translates to being a good person.

In a follow up at least he has joined the SUP movement  and not bash it

He has a decent windsurfing blog

Looks like 'Puffin is paddling into a nice one on his avatar.

There are 'No Bozo' stickers for everything.  So many that the real bozo is usually the one sporting the sticker.

Florence should jump into the SUP world...even part-time...he could rake in some $$$.
I hoping for a Slater - Meister final.

Gotta agree about CJ.  He's got more moves than Parko and better style than Fanning.  He seems to have a lot of fun and can surf well in all conditions.

I think all surfers should SUP for cross training.  The benefits translate quickly to either give you a competitive advantage, or make your surf session more enjoyable cause yer all-around stronger.

sometimes i'm glad i don't live in HI.  too many complications and rules.  i'd rather live free 'n' die in the great frozen bitter NE!  (I think.)

I was on Maui Oct30-Nov06...first time there, first time SUPing on moving water.
I spent the first two days SUPing in front of the condo in Honokowai, then the next four days at Launiupoko.  I had a most excellent time.  Waves were fun, people were friendly, water was warm.
I checked out all the surf spots and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out where not to SUP.
For the most part, it came down to respect the break, figure out the pecking order, avoid people in the water, and be cool in the parking lot.

I rented a 10' x 27 1/4 x 3 7/8...smaller than the board I paddle in CO...but was super easy to surf with.

Do you wear different thickness wetsuits for paddling the CO?
What would be the ideal thickness to get if you were to own only one?

Looks like a fun time to me.

I live in Littleton, CO and started SUPing in September.
I paddle at Chatfield Reservoir.

Next spring I plan to start river running on the South Platte and hopefully get my skills advanced enough to hit the Colorado River.  I've got to save up for proper gear in order to do that though.

Let me know if you organize any SUP excursions.

Good luck SUPing,
Hammie

Technique / Re: Frontside top turn help
October 13, 2009, 05:57:06 PM
I think a frontside top turn would be most easily performed by shifting weight to the back foot and both heels.  This should sink the tail and lift the topside rail...kind of like putting on the brakes with the back foot and steering the turn with the force applied to your heels.
When the topside rail lifts out of the water a bit, the board will sink and turn on the downside rail directly under yer butt.

At least this is my plan for executing a FS top turn...I'll let you know how if it works in about 20 days.
