Any advice on what kind of fin set up I should have for basic flat water paddling? I rented today a board w/1 and one with 3 the time prior.  Thnx in advance,,

I'm hardly an expert, but do know this, it depends on how well the board that you use  currently tracks, and how stable you are on said board with the fin that you now have.  a taller fin helps with stability, a fatter (longer front to back) aids tracking.   Most people I see around here use a 10"-11" standard dolphin fin shape and are quite happy.  There are more specialized fins out there with all kinds of funky shapes for specific purposes, but none of these are necessary for most people, but it sure is fun to experiment!

also depends on whether you have weeds or not

Thanx again for the response!!

I'm thinking anything from 9"-12" and IMO you want to use as small a fin that you can get away with remembering that the fin effects three main things on a SUP board.. Tracking.. Stability.. and Turning.

Some boards yaw alot and don't track well and a bigger fin should help but some boards track so well that only a small fin is needed.. The same thing with stability and a smaller fin will often allow the board to turn better than the same board with a large fin.

I'm trying to figure this one out too.  My Rapidfire came with a 6 inch fin, which I barely notice (I believe Corran said he paddles without it).  So I went looking on ebay and found a 10 inch fin from Dorsal, which I'm trying out now.

I'm too new at sup' ing to be able to comment much, but I can tell you my board tracks well now and the fin was $19 with free shipping.

Hope this helps.
