The wind finally came back today on Maui and I got a nice session at Kanaha. Of course, it wouldn't be a Kanaha Session if I didn't get blasted off my board by a breaking wave and wind up thrashing around in the Portuguese Triangle trying to get restarted with waves breaking on me. I finally managed to time things right and wing out of there. Good session in every way, with decent wind, nice waves, and not crowded.

Yeah, I should have gone, the wind is howling at my house. But I got stuck deep into learning Fusion 360 and I was on a roll. Looks good tomorrow too.

So I went to Kanaha yesterday, it looked great, then just as I started to take stuff out of my car to rig I looked at the tide at noon: Ruh-ro. .3 feet. I hit stuff at Kanaha when it's 1 foot, .3 sounds like I'd be whacking everywhere. So I walked down to the beach and looked at the tiny number of wingfoilers who were out. In the five minutes or less I stood there I saw four riders go over the handlebars in what looked like a classic rock hit.

Nope.

So I went to the harbor, and hit some stuff there.

from 2/11.  waves smaller this day and tried out my 65cm Cedrus mast to make my ride more reef friendly.  still from fun stuff out there.  3.0 was good unless it wasn't... got stuck for a bit, but just had wait out the lull.

65 CM is a good idea for Kanaha

it's a 66cm Project Cedrus mast that measures out to 70cm w/ plate and adaptors

what length do most people use at Lowers/Ka'a?  How shallow is it where the wave actually breaks?  I was being conservative and kicking out and never crashed in the whitewater.

Using the 94cm mast, I did get stuck bouncing off the reef a bit b/w the lifeguard tower and weird wave on a ~1ft tide (I think).

It's variable, but I've hit the reef with my usual 82cm mast when the tide was +1. I've pinged off all those rocks in front of the lifeguard tower, and the Portuguese Triangle (weird wave) is a hazard no matter what the tide is. I just get up until I can hear the wing slurping if I have to go over it--and pray a little.

I've switched to a 72CM for Kanaha, but I generally don't go if it's less than 1 foot. Though if it's good, I'll go no matter what.
