A quick count shows there are approx.70 beach cleanups planned in Massachusetts alone for the Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup on Sept. 20th. What are you doing.....got a few hours to spare?

The 1st one went off very succesfully a week early at Plymouth's Long Beach. About 60 students from Sacred Heart School, Some parents, Sister Ida Mary (think angelic old nun), Jason (Santa's twin brother), Sue and I, filled about 40 trash bags and removed some larger debris that wouldn't fit in bags.

It's amazing, at a glance Plymouth beach actually looked pretty clean. I pick stuff up every time I'm out but it didn't look too bad. We still filled 40 bags....40 BAGS! #1 piece of trash by far....cigarette butts, 1000's of them, followed closely by small unidentifiable pieces of plastic, the ubiquitous plastic bottle, fishing gear, and a bunch of other STUFF! 90% was plastic.

The majority of the cleanups are happening this Saturday around the globe. Hope you can join in!
