Will Everpaddle SUP hold up in barrels?
« on: March 26, 2016, 04:32:37 PM »
Has anyone had experience or know of Everpaddle Sup's (says hand-made in Hawaii) whether they stand a chance in my Baja beachbreak? I've searched and not found anything definitive as far as legit reviews. Thanks in advance for any help. Looks fairly new from the fin configuration and definitely in great condition.

Seems like an obscure brand. The boards are super small and narrow. The fish mouth feature is weird.

They're an oahu company, out of Haleiwa I think. Dennis Pang is involved, might be an owner. He's a fine shaper. No idea if the boards are sturdy, though it would seem strange if a North Shore boardmaker was making weenie boards.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Those are be prone boards (on their web site). The only SUP on the web site is the Dozen 6, a 2010 distance model.

I thought they seemed a little thin at 2 1/2".

That's really strange because the whole website is about standup boards. The Ahi Hybrid even says it's "designed for easy paddling yet has the feeling of a shortboard".

I have had multiple, 3, board failures from name brand companies. Two were Hawaiian and shapers are respected here on the zone. Once your waves start to pop, like hollow baja beachbreak, the unreinforced non carbon vacuum bagged styrofoam(sorry) blanks can break. Only about a 3' wave is needed.

The boards need old fashion stringers or carbon strengthening. The problem is the shape might work but the build level is for flat water.  Check out the construction details.

I surfed with the owner/shaper, Kevin Seid, once a few years back.  He lived back & forth between Hawaii and the Bay area.  Super cool dude and a legit ripper.  Not sure if he's still making boards, but the ones I saw were being glassed at Stretch's in Santa Cruz, and looked nothing like what's on the website.  Probably similar durability as a typical custom board...

He also was making some really sick paddles out of bamboo and re-claimed wood.

Never ridden one myself, but the people I know who have them love them. Shapes are legit, especially if it is recent. Assuming of course the shape is appropriate to the wave you want to ride.

They are all custom I believe, so construction depends whatever specs were ordered. Some guys order them heavily glassed, others go for light boards at all costs.

Man, what a great video! Thanks everyone for the feedback on the Everpaddle! Something else came up, should have it in hand mid-late next week. You'll all hear way too much about it when it lands. The Zone smiles on all of us!

It was a beautiful day. I was coming in when he was going out. I thought the swell was dying, but as it turns out it stayed pretty strong all day with no wind to be seen.
