That was a really really hard. I couldn't catch a glide to save my life. Watched you all slowly get smaller and smaller didn't help my mental game either. No excuses, but I think I need a new water system again. Tasted a bit funny, and I felt just like I did after that day we paddled from Keanae. Went to get my hair cut after the run and I almost passed out the the chair. The girl actually asked if I was getting sick!  Haha. Or I am just that out of shape. Either way, I'd love to go tomorrow.  We'll see how my day goes. Hope to see you all on the 1pm. Nice job today cove. You really cranked out there!

About every 5th time, I sterilize my camelbak bladder. I rarely put anything in the pack except water. If I do use something besides water, the thing needs to be cleaned before it's used again. Rinsing is not enough.

I usually take a capful of clorox bleach and put it in the bladder. Fill it with water and leave it in the sink. Squeeze the bite valve with your fingers and put pressure on the water bladder to get the bleach/water mix into the drinking tube. Let the thing sit for 30 min to an hour. Blow into the water tube to get the water/bleach back into the bladder, empty and rinse all of it thoroughly. The bleach water mix should effectively sterilize it.

You actually weren't that far behind. Kathy and I have been paddling a lot of days on standup while you were working or being a good dad/husband.  Today would have been really tough to jump into. Even though we've been on the south side, it still helps a lot. A lot of the guys and women that are really good on Maliko put down the south side as being 'easy' and worthless. In my opinion, it is neither. Because of the clean conditions over there, you can actually work on and perfect things that would be an absolute struggle in the confused water on the N shore.

Sorry you felt like sheet. Hope you are recovering! I already booked for 1 PM, I'm such a junkie. But I can't go Sat/Sun so I this is my last run til next week.

Should be a repeat of today, only with more north swell. Surfline says not a lot bigger--9 to 12--but some of the other forecast have it a lot bigger. I'll probably go, but it was a handful today. I'm just too much of a junkie to miss a good Maliko, even if it's a little intense.

You guys were all flying from the getgo. I got a lousy start, punching into a lot of stuff. Didn't fall much, but stalled the board a lot. I think I need to take the V1 tomorrow, the flat rocker in the V2 just isn't helping on days like that.

Looks like there could be some southside surf in the early morning.

Big, technical and messy. But fun as anything ever. Caught some big drops and a few times, when I felt fearless enough to chance staying on the tail and steering from there, I was able to link three to five waves at a time, accelerating like crazy. Stayed far, far outside but it was a clear shot to run in towards the harbor mouth as soon as you were past Upper Kanaha.

You couldn't stop paying full attention and thinking the entire way. Had a couple of kind of harsh get offs that I didn't really anticipate. One second I was going, the next I was in the water trying to keep the board from flying over my head before I could get back on.

An adequate amount of shit was given on the shuttle to propel myself down the coast. I joined Justin for a shave ice after the run. We deserved it.

I thought yesterday was rough. Turns out it was just a warm up. today was nuts. I dropped into some holes I wasn't sure I was coming out of. Every few minutes I'd hear hissing behind me, even when I was way out. Stuff was breaking everywhere, and upper, upper, outer was going off. There was a girl on a green board slightly inside and ahead of me who suddenly turned and headed straight out as fast as she could go. No idea what she saw, but it bugged me. Then about ten minutes later she turned and went straight in after we cleared the breakers, went in at the oil tanks from as far out as I've ever seen anyone try it. .

I couldn't link anything. Got huge drops and pretty long glides, but I couldn't hook up to the next. Each was one and done. It felt like a fast run, but I was the last one in to the harbor. Knee wasn't a problem until the end, which was ugly. So mixed up at the harbor entrance.

Going to be smokin' tomorrow. I'm in.

A lot of storm stuff moving along the coast. I hope it pushes through for the downwinder. I hate having the wind turn off in the middle of a run.

Smoked today. I had a personal breakthrough. I noticed a couple of my falls recently were when my feet slipped, so I waxed my pad and let it sit in the sun. Made a big difference in my balance. Had a great run today, I charged it the whole reun. Felt great, very fast for me.

^^^ yeah!

Charging always works! And when it does, then you're stoked and you charge more the next time. This is what life is about!

It snowed here last night, all is white today, again, but DW season is beginning. and I can't wait. We did eek a wee little breezy one yesterday while mates rode pow.

I wax all the pads on my SUPS - have done so from day 1....folk think I'm daft but the grip is better.

I've always done my surfboards, but never thought to do DW boards. Don't know why, grip is easily as important on a bouncy Maliko run.

Great day today. I charged it from the turn, and had a blast. Lots of big drops on the inside. My shoulders are toast, feels like they're going to fall off. Team Advil. Good tomorrow again. I'm going to burn it right up to race day. I'll rest later.

The last day I paddled before today was Friday and it was big and gnar. It was also very fast and I had a very good time that surprised me.

A couple days with no downwinders for me over the weekend and then I got to go today. In fact, I got a Maui bi-fecta, standup surfing in the morning and a Maliko d/w in the afternoon. It doesn't get much better than that.

What a huge difference between today and last weeks runs in the big gnar. Today was like  typical summertime conditions. Wind 20 to 25, no groundswell and nice, lined up windswell, with some small refraction like DK talks about in his Maliko presentation from last night.

I managed to fall three times, no reasonable excuse either, and, even though I thought I was killing it, I was 2 minutes and a few seconds slower than on last Friday's big, messy, spooky run. Go figure.

I often feel like I'll never really figure Maliko out. But I don't really care that much. It's fun as anything no matter what. I had to beat feet and study for my exam tomorrow so that's why I didn't stick around the harbor Bill. I don't think I'll be freed up until Friday. Have fun!

No way that it was as fast as friday, none of the combination bumps that give the long, fast rides. But it was easy money, and it rocked. I haven't checked my time at all lately-I suspect I might be disappointed--but I know I'm not hesitating or holding back on the big drops at all. The first couple of Malikos this spring I was kind of conservative, now I'm just going hard as I can. I need to shed forty pounds to get real speed, but I'm pretty happy with the performance other than that. I can't walk without limping a little, but I haven't had my knee bother me on any of the recent runs. I think I'm just too pumped to pay attention to it.

The last few years, my times have slipped on Maliko runs.  I've become resigned to it yet something happened today,  a personal best time to the harbor... by ten minutes.  Previous best was four years ago.

Didn't really feel that hot at launch after riding up packed into the rumble seat of Jimmy's truck.  A little carsick and still feeling one margarita from last night.   But after we got out into the open water, conditions were better than I've seen in a very long time and I slipped into an amazing groove all the way to the finish.  One yard sale but otherwise felt like the golden child.  We all caught the first glimpse of summer like conditions at that last Olukai race.  Then it disappeared till yesterday when Cove posted about perfect conditions.  No ground swell at all just the wind roll all the same direction.
