Guys-
I tried searching both the ke nalu site and the forum but can't find a definitive answer on what the 'wait' time is after you assemble the paddle with the hot glue.

Want to do an adjustment tomorrow AM before a surf- would 2 hrs be enough for it to properly set and hit the water?

(Paddle isnt at my house- or else I wouldnt have such a small window to do it)

Thanks!

No worries....30 secs? Not much longer than that...just has to cool. One of the beauties of hot glue, no wait time. Take your time and be sure to twist the shaft as you insert. Heat the glued shaft until you can see the glue liquefy. You also want to heat the shaft. I hold them so I can heat both at once with the glued shaft in front. Get it heated up and slide it in with a twist. As you put it in it will leave a ridge of glue at the joint, slide it back out slightly with a  twist and a little of the glue will get pulled into the joint and assure even distribution of the glue. Then slide it back in tight and remove any excess while its still warm. By that time the glue has usually hardened to the point that its getting tough to adjust. If necessary I hit it for another minute with the blow dryer, get everything straight and less than a minute later you're good to go.

Yep! I have good luck with letting everything dry and the excess ridge just rolled clean. Had my xacto knife on stand by, but no need!

I sell these in store (nzboardstore) and have assembled quite a few for customers.

We heat the glue and shaft at the same time - twist in - pull out half an inch to get the bead of glue back inside the shaft - then set the angle of the handle and scrape the excess glue off with the end of a steel ruler, this way you can keep the excess and reuse it later.

Dipping the handle in water to cool the glue can set it faster.

Great to be able to set the paddle for the customer instore and then send them off to paddle right then.

If you end up getting goober all over the shaft, you can heat it up and wipe off with a rag, then use Varsol (paint thinner or wax remover) to clean up the rest.
It will come out perfect that way, so don't sweat it if you screw up a bit.

Be careful cutting excess glue off with an X-acto knife.  Its possible to nick the carbon on the shaft and pull a string all the way up to the handle (fiberglass shaft anyways).  If you cut off the glue, cut towards the blade rather than the handle.
