Taller than most, shorter than others.

Great review.  The board sounds like a real winner!

... everyone has a different comfort zone.

true that. for me, at 6'3" 210 lbs, the 8'10" is tippy...too tippy. i can have fun on it in waves when there is no chop whatsoever, but even then, i have a lot of 'unforced errors' and end up in the drink. this shortens my water time. when i tried a slightly larger wider board (9'*33"), i found it surfed as well if not better than the Allwave (it also has thinner rails and no fish), and the stability was far superior with the same exact volume.  i used to think i needed my larger 9'10" Allwave in chop, but now, i use the 9'*33" for everything except when the waves are tiny.  the 8'10" Allwave has been just taking space in the garage since. i guess my point is: these reviews are nice, but there is really nothing that reviews quite as well as a demo.

Good points BEACHED. There are many sup design variables that change on why a sup is a "Comfortable" surfing board when your over 6 feet tall and weigh your 200 pounds.  It seemed like the same thing back in my windsurfing days.  My friends zipping around on their 5.6 sails weighing 160 pounds while i was slogging on a 7.5 sail weighing 220.

What 9'0" by 33" board are you referring to?  Maybe you could give a review of that board?

Not a hijack at all...
I think one of the best aspects of any review is the follow up feedback...
It's all good for the flow of info.

Reviews of boards was the only reason I came to the Zone in the first place.
We need more talk about all boards by all sizes, shapes and abilities....
because every review will connect with someone.

I was also curious about what you settled on... I surmised it must be the Hero.
I have never ridden one, but have heard many good things about them.
Thanks for the link.

Since my 9'6 is in rehab, I took the 8'10 out on a one hour flat-water cruise today.
As an afterthought, I turned on the GPS for the last 5 minutes
I wanted to see what kind of pace I could maintain at a brisk paddle
I was pretty happy that I could keep it over 4mph...
not bad for a shorty with the center fin all the way forward.

Agree with you in that the Allwaves are easy to noseride - very stable on the nose which is a nice surprise.

They are very good allround surf machines.....

Damn Creek, even I can see your feet!  :D

This has been one of my favorite threads, and one that validates the endless discussion about dimensions both rider and board.  SUP is particularly subject to performance variations based on size and shape, and I'll be puting my own limits on trial this next week while attempting to ride a 9-0 by 32 wide board. I already think that I'll be missing the glide of my 10-3, but you can't know your limits until you test them.  It's not my board so I don't have to worry about the investment end, but if it does...oh boy who knows where I'll end up.  I'll post pictures next week.

JimK

Just a thought check out the AW 9'10 for better glide

Give JimK a call or message him. I got my Allwave from him and I live in Hawaii. JimK is a super cool guy and you can't go wrong getting your Allwave from him. He will answer all your questions before you buy and will help you get the best board that would suit you. Aloha.

I've had my eye on an Allwave for a while after reading all the good things on the Zone.  After talking to Creek and TomKat and demoing a 9'2", I just pulled the trigger on a couple Allwaves (8'10" for me; 9'2" for my wife) from JimK.  Stoked to get out on the water on the new boards - thanks Jim!

One question - Has anyone tried putting a sail on them?
