I found the lagoons in redwood shores and foster city are perfect for this.  Slight preference for the lagoon in Foster City off of Hillsdale because it has a bit of a beach.   Water isn't as cold as the bay.

Anyone been to Shoreline Lake?

The history reads like the plot to the Toxic Avenger and apparently now the water quality is monitored regularly.
Aloha, I welcome and appreciate all responses of positivity and good feeling.

shoreline lake is also a fine spot for a family SUP outing.  I used to windsurf there from time to time many years ago, but it was never actually windy enough to have that much fun.

Well we tried berkeley marina, china camp beach, sausalito. Main conclusion is those windfinder windy apps are completely useless, we got hammered by 20 knot winds when they forecast 8. Summer winds.
Seals are the best for the kid, where do I find more curious seals, yet stay away from those 'haul outs' that are protected.  Thanks all.
