Hanalei - Zoners are everywhere -

I was at the main break at Hanalei the other day, (enjoying a yearly family vacation here) and started talking to a few of the other suppers and turns out one is from Hood River... turns out, he lives across the street from Bill there. lol

One of the others was "Woody" from the Zone and so it was quite the little party out there. So amazing that you can travel the world and find aloha in the lineups from this forum.

It's "small" on the North Shore here, but that just means waist to head high at the mouth of the bay and perfect knee to chest at the other breaks nearby so there'll be no complaining from this new guy. It's maybe the best learning trip I could have.

 Man, I know what you mean... Such a small world. I was out surfing Hanalei Bay back in '86 when I went there for a month long surf-cation from J-Ville Fla.. I heard a voice from the line-up say "Hey JD; is that you"? Turned out to be a guy (Fran) I knew from Jax Bch but hadn't seen in a few years. He had moved to Hanalei and was working in Princeville as a waiter so he could surf all the time... Such a small, small world,         JD

I'm not even surprised when I run into zoners anymore. Though it does feel kind of weird when someone you don't know comes up and asks if you're "stoneaxe".

JD--That was you?!?  I remember that!  I was swimming out there in '86 and saw two guys surfing. One of them yelled to the other, "Hey JD--is that you?".  The other guy looked surprised, then replied "Fran?"  Wow--small world.

Yes, weird if it's a stranger asking you that.  Potentially dangerous if it's your wife.
