pdxmike,  That is pretty funny.....I changed out my fin for this morning's paddle to a Futures 10" Weed fin and it made all the difference in the world.  The combination of working on the vertical nature of my stroke and the new fin solved my problem.  I've gone from 3-4 strokes per side to 6-8 (and feel like I can improve that).  Thank you all so much for your advice.   As I almost exclusively paddle alone (nobody on my lake SUPs), this forum has been a huge help.  Thanks everyone!

I do want to add that, although I myself prefer going straight when I paddle, I understand that straight is just one of many ways to go.  For anyone who prefers not to go straight--and I know that there are many of you out there--I respect that.
