11 miles there and back...

Went for my longest paddle to date. 11 miles round trip. And it sure felt like 11 miles . Afterwards The Surf Shack, shop I surf for, had a SUP demo, and it was a big success. A lot of new smiling faces cruising around on the SUPs.

Hey Russ D:
when and where was that picture taken. I am on the Florida west coast too. Wee haven't had alot of good days, but that looks like pretty good conditions for us. I keep hoping for another day as good as Christmas Eve was.

PaddleD, that  pic was taken last year at the begging of spring. It was a small swell that was supposed to be bigger, but never happened (story of our lives here on the G.O.Mex . What area are you from? I live in the Pinellas area. There are about 8 of us SUPrs now, maybe even a couple more I don;t know, in the area. There is going to be a SUP demo, 2nd one, on March 1st. behind The Surf Shack on St, Pete Beach. We did the 11 miler just before doing the demo. It was a good turn out, and everyone that got on a SUB loved it.

Russ-D: Make that 9. I am in Pinellas as well. I recognized the Surf Shack name and noticed the Oxbow demo on Gulfster but didn't make it out there. I will try to get to the next one and introduce myself if you are there.

I generally surf on Indian Rocks Beach as it is the easiest for me to get to. St. Petersburg Is almost an hour away for me. I do pretty well on the Jimmy Lewis 11x30 when and if we have glassy waves, but I more or less give SUP guys a bad name on the choppy days. I am planning on paddling out there this Saturday and Sunday if this front gives us anything otherwise I'll paddle in the bay around Safety Harbor which is closer to me.

I don't think I am up for the 11 mile challenge. I am 43 and spend way to much time working in an office.  Maybe this summer I'll give it a try. Besides, the Jimmy is slow on the distance paddles. I think I am only averaging about 2 and 1/2 miles an hour there and back.
