DJ is on the money... it looks goofy, but the stuff is the bomb... and you can get some good deals on the net... be carefule though... EURO sizing, so order up a few sizes and make sure there is a liberal return policy...

I love grinding out a good a.m. paddle wearing my short sleeve Grio d'Italia King of the Mountinans jersey... (yes, it's pink!)

... my cleats leave dents in my board though... any suggestions?

Tim--What a coincidence!  I just finished duct-taping my clipless bike pedals to my board.   After falling several times during the Round the Rock race, I figured I'd do that, then wear my bike cleats on the board, so I'd be locked in place.  I just need to work on my Eskimo roll technique and I'll be set for next year's race.

Flex in the shoulders has always been my biggest problem distance paddling in the winter with a regular wetsuit.  That, and getting too hot in neoprene.  Hyperflex makes a nice 1.5 mm neoprene vest, with the shoulders and arms polypro, plenty of flex.

That'll work..  ;D

It's funny how many people ask me while paddling along under the pier if my feet are attached to the board somehow.

I'm using a Neo-Fleece 2 piece from Probe wetsuits...

http://www.probewetsuits.com/probesurf/index.html

Pretty good for casual paddling but if I decide to crank it up, especially as we head into Spring, the fleece gets a bit hot and sweaty.

I wear compression tights a lot, mostly for the monster varicose vein on my left leg, but also for warmth when it gets nippy. The shed water fast and don't give that cold wicking feeling. I also frequently wear a mountain biking jacket that is goretex. Not waterproof of course, but even if you take it into the drink it traps heat. Too much heat if you're going hard--that's the jacket I cramped up while shedding during the Round the Rock.

My goal is that someday somebody will ask me that!

Totally agree on the Cycling clothing.
Sugoi makes some really good cold weather stuff (they are a Canadian company - go figure) that I use when it gets colder.
http://www.sugoi.com/usa/eng/

The Quiksilver Waterman Collection will have a pullover and a zip up paddling top in the spring.
They are really nice and work well.  Rumor has it that they are trying to bring some in, in time for BOP.

The other thing that some one mentioned is the Quiksilver Cypher heated vest.  THE BEST piece of cold water gear around.  Turn it on at the start - warm up - turn it down or off once you have warmed up.

Easy Rider is the name of my store in Edmonton, AB, Canada.
My name is Warren Currie . . . and we SUP Surf indoors . . . in a shopping mall!

I was in EMS (Eastern Mountain Sports, similar to REI) this morning.
The woman showed me a hydrosilk shirt by NRS, also some pants by NRS.
She thought I was looking for kayaking stuff and tried to sell me on a spray skirt.
So I said I was looking for something to wear while standing up and paddling.

She ALMOST shrieked, "Oh, I've never MET anyone who does that."
"It's the latest thing, isn't it ?"
"Is it HARD ?"
"What does it cost to get started ?"
On and on, half my age, but I swear I could have hooked up with an invitation to have her try SUP'ing.

Anyway, back to NRS hydrosilk shirts ; Any experiences with it ?
What about the pants, they only had sizes too large for me, but there are other stores in the area.

Maybe it was NRS Hydroskin? - http://www.nrsweb.com/shop/product_list.asp?deptid=942&utm_campaign=nrsweb&utm_source=homepage&utm_medium=graphics&utm_term=nrs_midcenter_hydroskin

Thinkin about checking it out myself. I live an hour or two from their Moscow, ID factory & hear they have a shop there to check out their gear.

The one I looked at is here;

though EMS wanted $40 for it - come to think of it I might have seen the short sleeve version.

NRS is the industry standard for SDPing (Sit Down Paddling) .  The Hydro Silk is equivalent to a good quality rash guard; very breathable and wicking.  The NRS Hyroskin is equivalent to 1/2 " neoprene, and makes a great lightweight wetsuit.  I tried the Hydroskin longsleeve top, and it ws too constricting, (may have been the 15 lbs I gained), but I use a hydroskin vest that works great.  (Holds in my gut too.)

Immersion Research makes great fleece for paddling. Wicks sweat, and holds warmth, even when wet.  I like a thin nylon windbreaker over fleece for days when the air temp is below 60° and the water is in the mid 50s.  Much colder and I find something else to do.
