Very cool...except that he seemed way too interested in you. Next step was an exploratory bite.... :o  Always amazed to see how fast they can move.

The size of the gill slits (small), the first dorsal fin being so far back of the back of the pectoral fins, the long upper caudal (tail) fin and the steep angle of the pectorals made me think it's not a white, but the shots are all pretty murky, and juvenile sharks don't look all that much like the adults--fins move around, bodies thicken, etc.. If your expert buddies say it's a white then it likely is. and that makes it even more special to see. I've only seen one great white under water, but it was a biggie--size of a small bus.

Sure looked like a juvie whitey to me. I have seen a small one breach out @ Dog Patch, more down the beach toward SONGS (nuclear plant).

Holy crap, I was there on Saturday, tandem with my 6 year old (dont tell mom).  I met someone at the patch who said he had a juvie white check him out up close and personal and he gave him a paddle whack.  I was thinking that was bs, but now not so sure.

Dude, just saw Chuck P (who shot that by the way) on the Channel 4 news here in LA.

That footage gets around!

Great story on all the sharks we're seeing here on the So Cal Coast. Apparently there are more of them than ever this year.

Personally, that video let me set my fears aside and see how amazing those things are.

Ya, that was a pretty cool experience for sure. Jamie Mitchell and i were SUP surfing there and we told him about the regular shark sightings and sure enough within 5 minutes we see a 7'-8' Mako circling several of us off and on for 20 minutes. He had never seen a shark so close before.
Long story short I told Jamie that i would paddle out the next day and get a photo of his little buddy for him. The minute i paddled to the outside peak (about 250 yards off shore) where we saw them the other day I was pleasantly surprised by the shark when it swished it's tail into my board almost knocking me down. I quickly grabbed my GoPro camera that I mounted on an 8' pole and took a couple pictures and then got some video of it before it before it slowly swam away. i have to admit i was a little spooked and wondered if I was a little crazy to try to get a photo, but watching it swim circles around my board was so intriguing that I was instantly captivated. I spoke to a couple marine biologists that viewed my footage and they all said it was a Juvenile Great White shark. SanOnofre is a known breeding ground and the sharks have always been there, but never seen until we started SUP surfing there regularly.

Have fun, Be smart & safe out there.
Aloha,
Chuck P

And Channel 5 KTLA in this am. Chuck, you're in the news cycle. ;)

Thank you for sharing that stuff and the story. Amazing that SanO has been a breeding ground all these years.

It's just more evidence that as much as people worry, most of the time the sharks couldn't care less about us.

Gosh Chuck, you ski off mountains, surf death defying waves in Tahiti, and are the first to SUP some gnarly offshore slabs, but get the most news coverage by taking snapshots of baby sharks. Go figure.  ;)

Great video and shots you got there.  You also got some big balls, most of us would be heading to shore. ;D
