Switching Feet with paddle??
« on: March 08, 2010, 09:45:49 PM »
In the Outrigger Canoe when paddling we put our leg on the same side forward and the other locked underneath you. It really sets up a solid base and helps to have something to drive the torso off.  Sometimes you get sore legs even though your sitting down.

Back on my 17' race/dw board and something I never noticed in the surf on regular SUP is the lack of power you are able to transfer to the paddle in comparison.  Obviously the longer shaft, slower cadence etc are factors.   BUT/

I have been trialling switching feet forwards with the paddle change either foot forwards on the same side as the paddle.  It feels awkward in the change still but in my mind at least I feel that I am getting more power to the water by being able to reach forwards and twist the torso more into each stroke.  As soon as I nail the changes under effort I will time it on my 750 sprint test track to see if it is only my mind.

Has anyone else tried this?  Anyone know anyone using this method successfully?

yup. I think everyone tends to do it a little bit, unless they have a rudder. I notice I switch feet a lot more on my Footie than I do on the F18
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Tried it but 30 years of snowboarding with my left foot in front makes it feel really weird with my right in front.
Easy Rider is the name of my store in Edmonton, AB, Canada.
My name is Warren Currie . . . and we SUP Surf indoors . . . in a shopping mall!
