Australia Day SUP race vid.
« on: January 26, 2010, 07:40:33 AM »
January 26 is Australia day and a public holiday for all of us living down under.. ;D

We had a SUP race here in Melbourne today called the Port Phillip Cup.. and it's held on Port Phillip bay at St Kilda beach.

Here's a vid that I took today with my camera on the nose of my Naish Glide.. btw the vid's almost 10 minutes long.

I cut 20 minutes out of the vid after going under the pier and joined it when coming back under the pier (a about the 7.30 mark) to return to the finish.. So the race was about 30 minutes long.

Hope you enjoy it.

DJ

Ha!..  :D .. Did you also notice the Naish hat and Oakley sunnies.. also had Speedo's on under my Maui Rippers..  ;D

That board was my 14' Glide.. The nose sits so high in flat water I can run about two foot of board up the back of another before it touches.. I wonder if I can fit a small Kialoa sticker on the tip of the nose?.  ;)

The 17 is way pointier.. Pointy noses are great for parting the way through slow paddlers..  ;D

Neat video. I really expected it to be boring, all my SUP race videos are deadly dull.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

If DJ lived in the USA he would have a reality show by now... Good stuff as usual.

Great video DJ,liked the the way you where choosing your options for passing, and the close up on the Australian flag.Suppose its obvious but i guess you have to be carefull in a race you tape your paddles to stop rail chips and all that effort could be wasted in one race there's bound to be collisions surely.

How far is the actual course?  :)

The course was only about three kilometers long (almost two miles).
