Where's those seven footers
« on: December 31, 2009, 08:16:10 AM »
Yesterday was quite a letdown--All the forecasts said 5-7 feet and great conditions. Must have been Menehune feet. At best it was shoulder high and mostly double overknee to flat. On top of that the wind was blowing Kona, not hard enough to windsurf but too hard for a decent downwinder.

I whined myself to sleep last night.

Supposed to be 10 feet this morning. Gotta go. Ciao

Good morning at Kanaha, nice clean sets, some big 'uns. About 8:00 everyone had heard and cavalry charge started. Pretty soon there were 72 people in the lower break, and 36 on standup. Looked like Malibu the year after Gidget. Every wave had at least five and sometimes a dozen folks in it.

I went down to the boneyard, but it was breaking at a funny angle. Nice rides, but I had to paddle back out through continuous waist high whitewater. Exhausting.

Went back to Lower K, tried a big left, foot slipped off the back and I got jocked by my leash. Took a lot of the fight out of me. Rested awhile (laid on the board and moaned) rode a few more. Got burned on every wave. Too crowded. The Kona wind picked up, I caught a nice ride to the lagoon and headed home.
