A local at Swami's has one and said it was a bit to tippy for him. At 26.5, it probably wouldn't work for me either.

I am 5'9 155lbs. and the board was tippy as Alan said. The 9'6 worked better in my mind. My complaint with the 9'0 bat wing is it tended to submarine when dropping in the waves. The board was very loose and carved well. I used the board 5 times and decided that my 11 year old son would who weighs 95 lbs is a better candidate for it. The board was used on surf up to 6 feet. Hopefully this helps.

Aloha

I would also like to know as I want a 9'4" BC but concerned with the paddling of the board.  I know it will rip in the surf but how about apddling out and around?  Are these mid 9 foot boards good for a 190lbs guy?  I myself am going to stick to around 28"+ wide for the stability and my size.  Any input would be great!

I can help you there.  I have paddled 6 of Blane's boards now from 8'6 to 9'6, and can tell you that an obvious emphasis has been placed on paddling ease, stability and speed.  This is not true of all Stand Up boards, even much bigger one's.  I think that most people's first riding impressions of these boards is how easy they are to use, when the preconception may be just the opposite.  I am Damn near 190 right now (almost all due to stuffing, and a mean desert named Cherry's Kalfoutis that I hope to never see again).

What about the trade off for paddleability and surfability?  Well that is the toughest part of designing these board's, and guys like Blane, Bill Foote etc, who have built, ridden, built... have nuanced this through testing.  I think the next/current generation will tell.  Just by looking at them, the new shapes are starting to look right.

Just got back from a run up and down the coast on the PSH 8'8".  I find it to be very, very stable for a board its size - 8'8"x28"x4.25 I think. Nice thinner rails.  I was out for 2 hours catching little waves and cruising and never fell.  But it is a small SUP. I'm 125lbs and it will be my main board now. Course I learned on a 26" wide board. IMHO for bigger guys, they might want a little more size... Not much but a little more. I'm sure you could ride and would love this board but it may not be the best of bigger folks all around.  If it was only going to be your ripper board and you would have something a little bigger for cruising, than yeah, go for it. It is very very sweet..... ;D   JMHO

I was considering the Wing Bat since they have some here the shops but like Rand said, this board just looked so dang right.

Try the Nui Moana La Pistola in the 9'6"  I can ride waves, whale watch and still fit it inside my van:)
27 wide and 4.25 thick nice tapered rails that dont get deflected from cross chop.  All the C4's I have ridden were unstable for their length compared to some other boards with similar dimensions...  Like the C4 guys themselves say you cant judge a board by the dimensions alone and rocker, rails, sidecut, and surface area.
BTW I am 5'10" 175 lbs after all the Turkey (and before the daily releasing of the chocolate hostage)I will be back down to 170 once I get back home and away from all this food. :D

Here is a video of a crappy wave that was taken this weekend. Sorry for the quality and my 12 year old daughter will do better next time.

Unfortunately the winds were howling onshore and the waves were small.

Aloha
