Starboard 12'6 Cruiser for family board?
« on: November 08, 2010, 06:17:51 AM »
Hey everybody, first time poster here.  I have found a really good deal on a Starboard 12'6" Cruiser, and am wondering if it is a good "family" board.  I have a Starboard Pin and am going to pick up a surf-specific SUP next spring (just sold my Amundson 11'3).  What I am looking for is a board that I can take my 3 yr. old daughter on flatwater paddles, and maybe surf some small waves with her as she gets older.  I'm about 170 lbs., does this sound like a good match?  I can get a Big Easy for comparable price, but I demoed one a while back and it kind of felt like a barge.  Haven't paddled the Cruiser.  Opinions?

Welcome! A friend of mine had  one and he surfed it all the time. His 5yr old would ride on the nose while surfing so I don't see why it woundn't work for you. Plus Starboards are super tuff. Hope this helps Aloha.

Fantastic all round family board, good on flat water for distance, surfs well and isn't a barge. IMO you can't do better, just recently sold my original first SUP 12'6 because I had so many boards and I miss it already :(

You simply couldn't pick a better all-around board.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Thanks for all the quick replies--I'm going to go ahead and get the Cruiser.  Sounds like the right board!
