Scooter carrying SUP
« on: September 01, 2009, 01:49:27 PM »
This board is about a 6'10 SUP. He told me it also can carries his 7'6 SUP.  Very cool! I used a scooter with my surfboards before I started paddle surfing. Didnt own a car for 2 years. I have wondered if it would be possible to do this with SUP, although I had imagined making a custom welded rack, and this is just using the production Carver rack.

haha that is cool. I have been thinking of ways of transporting my SUP on my bike. Only problem is my are two baords are 11'2 and 12'6 so will probably have to go with some sort of trailer otherwise a gust of wind is going to push me over.

Whether that is legal or not is another question.

I put the carver longboard racks on one side of my mountain bike for the SUP, on the other side the regular carver racks for shortboard... ready to roll!  The shortboard rack clamps onto the seatpost... the longboard rack goes into pre-drilled rivets... Most mid level mountainbikes have the rivets, as do touring and cyclocross bikes.  Be sure to tight up the allen bolts often!

Works well for long skateboards... Kahuna big sticks... etc.  If it is too far for the skater...

For a bicycle a Mule works great. For a motorcycle you want something more like this:

Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

and if you have no welding skills  :( then this might interest you:

if I make the plunge I will post what I come up with.  Looking for something to leave, drive up the coast, paddle downwind, and then tow the board back to the truck . . .  Of course on Oahu there is a 50/50 chance that the bike and trailer would not be there (add on the cost of a good chain and lock to the project  ::) ) or face an unpleasant paddle back into the wind.

No, I keep missing surfing with the guy, although I have heard he is very good.  Sounds like he is at Shores more often, and I just keep running into him  at my spot when he's leaving.  Cant wait to surf with him though. The board he had on the scooter was very interesting. Very thick, round rails in the middle, and pretty thick in the tail too...but witha  subtle step rail just in the last 12" of the tail. Very interesting. Here's to transportation alternatives!

I tried his 6'10" before at the Shores in some waist-chest high surf not too long after he got it... it's an interesting board that is surprisingly stable for its size.  it's crazy to watch him punch through 4-5' walls of whitewater on that thing!
