Florida Noob board question
« on: June 10, 2009, 06:03:57 AM »
No other way around it - another what board should I get question.  I live in Fla. and will probably only be doing flat water paddling. 6', 200lbs.  I've had 3 days of paddling experience with pretty good results, riding on an 11'/28" Isle board - the only board I've tried.  An experienced friend recommended the Isle 12/30, but I've just read some negative things on this forum.  The only other board I probably could try out where I live is a JL, so it's not like I have a lot of demo options.  Since the on line stores are so prevalent, what are some other boards I should check out?

Thanks,
WMM

I would suggest that you look into YOLO Boards.  They are geared toward what you are wanting to do.

http://www.yoloboard.com/

They are based out of Santa Rosa Beach, great people and will stand behind their product 100%.

I would check out the 12ft Original and the 14ft Explorer.  Both stable and fast.

Good Luck!

Thanks - checked out their site.  One question: why would a SUP need an air release valve?

Hey Watermelonman:

As your self appointed SUPguru I would say the ideal mate for you is either the 12'x29" Naish Glide or the Starboard 12'6"x30"Cruiser. Both are excellent all around fast cruising boards and both are capable in small waves if you change your mind and decide to ride a few waves. I am in the TampaBay Area if you would like to try out my Naish Glide, and it shouldn't be too hard to find a dealer on either coast who can let you demo a Starboard Cruiser.

So the board can breathe, if you will, when left in the sun or storage.

First off welcome to the forum. Niash glide is a great board.  But if you want to ride the surf as well, (east or west coast) a PSH 11'WAA or the 10'6WAA would be a great choice.  Still great boad speed for cruising and traveling but also rips in the surf.  You are getting the best of both worlds.

C4 has a "wide" 10'6 in hand laminated epoxy for $999. A steal, if you can find one. Check with some Florida shops selling C4.

I am in the Orlando area. I have 2 boards and you are welcome to give them a spin if you are in the area. Both boards are 10'6" and may be little on the small side for your size but might give you a comparison point. I have been paddling for about 1.5 years now and only recently got the opportunity to try several different boards. It is amazing how much a half inch here or there can make a big difference. Just picked up a C4 and it is awesome....paddles flat water great and surfs great.
