Don’t overlook the Sunova Speeed

I have been looking at them for sure as there's a couple for sale second hand in the UK at the moment. Only thing that makes me wary of them is the width, or lack of. I still need some width I feel. My skill level isn't up to them at the moment.

EDIT

Just realised they make an 8'10 and a 9'2 Speed which has some width to them.

I tried an 8'10 Speeed a few times and one thing I couldn't get used to was the domed deck. Also, the parallel rails require it to be turned from the tail which didn't suit my style of riding.

I still love my 8'10 x 31" Sunova Flow. That board can be turned even if your front foot is over the handle so it's less critical where you stand. The new Casey/Flow model looks even better.

Sounds similar to the Loco I have. It can get pretty locked in according to the Supboarder review of it. Ive kind of felt a little like that on a few waves but I need to work on it either way. I'm some way off finding my "style" to be honest.

Hi Noonoo

I have two of the boards that have come up in this discussion, the 8’10” Speeed and the 9’ x 30” Revolution. Both work well in small knee to waist high waves but come alive when a bit more energy. The Revolution is a performance long board shape that is made for turning off the tail and walking up to the front. Lots of fun in smaller waves and might be a good complement to your current board. The Speeed remains my favourite board that I always seem to find an excuse to take out. It is a wee bit less stable than the Revolution but not by a lot. They are both fast down the line and both turn best off the tail but in different ways. How you fin them seems to make quite a difference in how they ride. The Revolution I have set up as a single fin long board (it has a longboard finbox)  and the Speeed with either Quoba’s or Cdrives. Your 9 year old might be better off learning on a soft top Wavestorm to minimize the inevitable body and board contact drama which we all encounter at some point. I am just getting over a nasty fin slash to the bottom of one foot. Cheers Bob

Cheers. Yeah it's crossed my mind to be honest but he's had a couple of bumps and shook them off without incident. There's a little urgency now to get him out on a flat water day and get some fundamentals in. A foamy isnt a bad idea to be honest. It allows me time to get saving.

Anyone trialed the 9' 30 and the 9'32 Revolution?

Just wondering how they compare with that extra width.

Thanks.
