Orcas are apex plus predators. Probably the smartest thing in the ocean by a sizable margin. But they have some behavioral oddities that make them less adaptable than one might think. The fish-eating type-B Orcas won't eat seals that compete with them for Chinook salmon. It seems almost a cultural thing.  They want to eat chinook salmon, which seals and sea lions are out-competing them for purely by numbers. They sometimes kill the seals, but don't eat them. Genetically identical pods in other areas and migrating pods primarily eat seals. It's like they're Vegans or something. I wonder if they fart a lot and won't stop going on about Salmonism.

FYI HERE...

Seals LOVE ME (Even here in NJ!) I don't know if I stink (please let me know so I can change) or do I just look like a seal (Kinda big and chubby) Seals flock to me. They swim right up to me, swim under my board, Bark at me.
 I've  never touched one (Never tried) and the encounters are always in the water. As opposed to the beach...
This kinda freaks out those surfing with me. Yelling at them or paddling at them doesn't seem to affect their demeanor towards me. If I just ignore them after a period of time they just swim away (I guess I hurt their feelings or something)
Personally, I have no affinity towards these pinnipeds. Anything bigger than me, faster swimming, and with big teeth, I want to avoid in the water
