How cold does the water have to be?  I always feel good after being in any cool water (if by choice).  So maybe there's some benefit to anyone who swims or surfs in cool water.  Water sports do seem more refreshing than non-water ones like running, so the exercise alone doesn't account for the good feeling.

I lived with a family in Finland once.  Finns worshipped saunas.  You sit in one, beat each other with pine boughs, then (ideally) jump in a lake or roll in the snow.  It's easy to do the cold part if you get heated up enough first, and it feels great.  I grew up running in the summer, then jumping into 50-degree Puget Sound.  Wouldn't want to do the cold part without getting heated up first, though.  Instead of feeling healthy, it feels like a good way to stop your heart.

My old favorite. The DogPatch shower. They turned all of them off due to the drought.  :'(

The shower is back on, at least when I went there in July.

That same scale o' justice works for water vs. beer. Only it's "tastes amazing".

I use to hate standing in line for a cold shower after surfing.  Not on Maui.  It's usually more fun than the surfing!

I totally agree but since beer is about 95% water...  Wait, why do I even drink water?

Really, you could apply all of those assertion fallacies to anything, including hot water baths.

You can be certain of one thing, cold water will get you wet.

I go through phases. Definitely feel better when on the cold shower game. It's sort of like working out, sucks when you are doing it but feels good after. When the winter is nearing its end and I am getting back into surf for the spring I usually try to have a month of cold showers ahead of it. Makes a big difference surfing here in the PNW.
Make paddleboarding great again!

Yeah, Laird is a big proponent of ice baths. He talks about it alot on his show/training method XPT on Outside channel.

He goes from 32 degree ice bath to 200 degree sauna and back.

It very common way to go sauna in Northern Europe (Finland) or Russia. You going in cycles between heating up then run outside and jump into a frozen lake.

i find hot showers help with sore muscles/joints---often point the shower at my neck and back, while stretching---works well---after a sweaty workout, i turn the shower to cold at the end---a fultile attempt to stop sweating before dressing for work!
