Not sure if it's the lack of surf the last couple of weeks or seeing @Fanman's and @surfafrica's cool new sticks but I got the urge for a new build.   After taking my 8' x 22.5" x 3.25" Wavestorm longboard out for a paddle (I was bored) and finding it surprisingly stable I thought a mini longboard shape would be something fun, different and challenging.

So I would like to present my latest build, the Greedy Beaver  ....

What happens when you take a longboard and make it shorter, and re-distribute the foam into the outline and thickness? Answer, you get the Greedy Beaver.  A midlength surfboard with retro glide and shortboard manueverability and just enough volume to use as a SUP.

Dims: 7' x 24" x 3.85" x 75L

OUTLINE: Compressed longboard outline, a true crossover board with midlength retro glide and shortboard maneuverability.

CONTOURS: Rolled vee entry, single concave through the center to vee double concave out the tail for flowing directional changes.

ROCKER: Low entry rocker for trimming and enough tail rocker to stay high performance.

FOIL: The high volume foil is perfect for maintaining speed and distance in smaller conditions.  The beveled rail reduces the overall thickness, adding performance including rapid direction changes.

Man, I drew a prone version of that at 7'6" since they don't make one that size. It's almost your SUP dimensions lol.

Love that shape and at a little bigger I'd be all over it.

The Firewire Greedy Beaver is a fine looking board and one of the reasons I wanted to try it.    I contacted Firewire to see if they could make a slightly longer, wider, fatter version but did not hear back.   To have my version of the board made in TimberTek construction would be awesome.

Love that shape and at a little bigger I'd be all over it.

It's a great shape, I think it would work at any length.   If I were to go longer I'd change the bottom contours a little but everything else would just scale as-is.

Yeah I wanted to do something completely different and a bit challenging.  The surface area is a little bit more than my Bean Bag and I was able to paddle a 8' x 22.5" Wavestorm with no problems so I think it will be OK.

I figure worst case scenario I will surf it prone or sell it.  The nice thing about doing a board this size is that the cost will be  less expensive than my previous builds (blank and glassing will be $450 total).

I'll be honest, I couldn't even prone surf this board, but back in the day this would have been a perfect funboard.  Looking forward to seeing it complete.

Sorry if you have covered this before, but can you give a run down of your production process?

It sounds like you design the board via shape 3d, but then you have someone else do the rest? $450 is a great price for a board, even if you are getting away with using a longboard blank.

Honestly it's not much different than a prone board.  I have one that is 24" wide.  Anyone else and I would say you couldn't handle something that narrow as a standup, but you are really good a tiny boards.

I had a great SUP session the other week on my buddy's big guy prone longboard--9'0 x 24, 95 L Infinity Secret Weapon. Lots of float for my size. The narrow width made it really fun on the wave. It was surprisingly stable out back. But I think I'd have a really tough time on a 24" wide board that was only  7'0 and 75 L.

I design on Shape3D.

I get my CNC'd blanks from Marko Foam with Hi-Res cut.  Cost on this one is $125.  My usual boards run about $180.

I use Pure Glass in Costa Mesa for glassing.  Base EPS glass job (6+6/6) with 4+1 Futures fins on this board will be $325.  I may add some extras like a Volan deck patch and/or tail patch.  My usual boards run about $450 for a base glassing job.

I had a similar experience on the 8' x 22.5" x 85L.  I thought it would be more tippy side to side but it felt solid.   At 75L and 24" wide this one will be a challenge for sure.

Exactly.  The main difference from a true prone board is the extra thickness to get to a reasonable volume.  The width is only 16" @12" from tail which is on par with many shortboards.

Anyone else and I would say you couldn't handle something that narrow as a standup, but you are really good a tiny boards.

Thanks for the vote of confidence :-)  This board is 3L less than my Bean Bag but has a little more surface area.  I am hoping it will be manageable.
