The excitement of iPhone X
« on: September 26, 2017, 10:10:16 PM »
This looks like a project I would do. Get distracted for eight months, then realize at the last minute that I need to get some piece of crap done for the big show.

Tim squirms around a little like he's just freshly wet his pants, thank god for grey corduroy. "We're so excited to show you something that's thinner, sort of smaller, with more glass and... ...well, other stuff then ever before. eight times faster processing--not that you've ever noticed any lack of processing speed. and the blacks are so much...   blackier.

So Apple stock goes into the tank. How long. Is this a bargain. I doubt it.

A critical improvement for my wife. She has no readable finger print.

TouchID never works. She could not get a readable finger print for her nursing license either. I wonder how many others found TouchID to be a POS.

For all of us, TouchID doesn’t work with wet hands

FaceID is a huge deal to her

Faster than a Mac laptop

Bigger screen than plus size phone, in the body of regular size

Take my money. 👏🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'd express my doubts about FaceID  working skiing or Mtn biking but to be honest I wear gloves for both so TouchID wasn't working anyway.

It's amazing how often my hands are wet and TouchID doesn't work even when I'm on land. So, yeah, not a bad idea.

I'm all for the bigger screen size in the same size phone. I'm so lucky, as my reading eyesight capability diminishes phone screen sizes keep coming out at just the right pace I can always just read my phone without glasses.

So, just for that I'll likely poney up the money.

5.8" OLED display
Faster A11 Bionic processor
Glass body
Edge-to-edge display
Facial Recognition
No Home button
Wireless inductive charging
Animoji

Laying a device on an inductive pad rather than plugging it in?  Face vs thumb recognition?  Emojis that mimic my facial movements?  At present this is all tech for the sake of tech.  Remarkable that these things are possible but of little functional benefit on day one.

A plus size display in a smaller form factor.  That is a win.

The value may prove to be in AR going forward.  The new True depth camera along with the rear facing camera, updated sensors, and a "neural engine" dedicated for AR and Machine learning.  We will have to see what use is made of this but it could be interesting.

It feels odd to look at a device of this immense capability, recognize the magic of a 10 nm process, massive power, sensor variety, multiple communication modes, memory, storage, graphics prowess...and not to be excited due that horrific, black blight of aesthetic interruption that is the "notch".  Steve Jobs, my revered superior in OCD, is clawing bloody fingernail trenches in his aluminum casket over that one.  They should have just given in a little further and made it phallus shaped so it could fuck my screen.  Too much?  sorry.

I don't believe anyone is your OCD superior. Let's say peer.

That presentation just made me nostalgic about the fun days when "one more thing"
meant something! Steve is turning in his grave :-[

Such a disconnect from the words used to describe the product and the actual product.
iPhone X is a great device (not a $1000 great though) but it is certainly not the future.
It's barely the present...

I've seen all of this before, one way or the other. They couldn't even throw-in a full
water proof device for god sakes. It's all about implementation and if judging by
TouchID, I don't have high hopes for FaceID. We saw where TouchID ended up.

And thank you Tim for taking away the home button. Finally after 3 years I managed to
make my 94 mother in law get the concept and I'm now  really looking forward spending
another 3 years of bonding with her on the concept of "where is the god damn home button"

Good Times!
in progress...

I switched from an iPhone to the Samsung S8 in the spring and love it.  The design is beautiful.  First phone that gave me the feeling of a nicely shaped surfboard!  The curved edges and no bezel allows me to have a large screen and hold it in one hand (I have small hands).  Android is fun as shit too.  I love widgets.  I love the always on display.  I love how well Android works with the Google-sphere (which I am in for sure).  Shit....I've become a Google fanboy.  F-ck.

The fingerprint reader on the S8 is in a useless spot.  I rarely use it.  The face recognition is pretty good and paired with some safe zones (I set my phone to unlock if I'm home or if I'm connected to my car via bluetooth), I only need to swipe in (or fingerprint in) every once in a while--not a big deal.

(PS... Steve Jobs would have never let that top notch on the screen get through in the iPhone X)

Maybe that's what Apple is resorting to now to show that they can still make a top-notch product.

Seem like a good marketing ploy, creating a top notch so at least there is one associated with the iPhone X
even if its a flop.
